Do you still buy magazines?

World of Interiors is the only magazine I look at these days but I don't buy it. It's available at a specialist library I use, where I can sit in lovely comfy chairs and read for hours.

I used to love fashion magazines and couldn't wait for the next issue of Honey, 19, Vogue, Nova, Elle, Cosmo etc to hit the shelves. To keep me going in the week I bought Woman and mum bought Woman's Own and we'd swap.

But nowadays, no, I never do.

Sad really, it was one of life's little joys but I totally agree with Witzend - the ratio of ads to content is one if the reasons I stopped buying them.

I buy Woman’s Weekly on subscription. There is a good mix of articles. Definitely not a celebrity gossip type.
Puzzles, food, short stories, craft , well being and inspiration .
At under £2 per week ,I think it is good value.

I buy Good Housekeeping but mostly for the recipes. I am thinking of cancelling the paper version and just keeping the app. I sometimes buy the Sainsbury's magazine for the recipes.

I enjoy magazines but never buy any as visitors to cottages do while on holiday and leave them behind I read and return to cottag. Never know what to find

And of course you don’t need access to a newsagent they arrive by post!

I have a weekly subscription to Women’s Weekly and a monthly one to Prima. Both have interesting articles and stories and have several pages of puzzles I really enjoy. Good discount with a subscription and I can recommend

I stopped buying any some years ago, after counting the percentage of pages of ads in one of the monthly ones - can’t remember which - it was over 70%.

I do look but then compare the price to that of a paperback, especially in supermarkets and buy the book

In our local library there is a box of various donated magazines at 50p each.

I also get Country Living from my Bank. I would never buy it as it’s mostly advertising.

No I don't, very expensive and generally nothing of interest.

Very rarely as I find them too expensive these days. I sometimes read them via the local library website, but it's not the same as reading them physically.

I agree with Oreo about the Saturday Times. I take Good Housekeeping as a freebie from my bank and also take Prima as DH didn’t want his freebie. I find them mildly interesting but not worth buying.

I used to love reading magazines from my teens through into my 30s, but they changed and it has been a long time - possibly 30 years - since there were any that appealed to me.

Apart, that is from special-interest ones such as Kitchen Garden Magazine, which i subscribed to for several years and really enjoyed when I first had an allotment, but even that lost its appeal for me eventually, because basically it ran out of topics that were new to me.

I bought my daughter a magazine (children's Disney) from the co-op and it was £6.99!

I very very occasionally buy country living - heaven knows why as I live in a large multi cultural town and am most probably so far removed from the likes of the country living folk

I get Good Housekeeping as a freebie from my bank.
It is a shadow of its former self.
As others have noticed it is celebrity obsessed.
There is one on the cover every month and an article inside about them.
Then more articles about how others have overcome difficulties in their life.
I want to be entertained actually…..and don’t get me started about the fashion articles.
I think to buy it is about £5 , a waste of anybody’s money.

My neighbours used to have a ‘magazine circle’, and I got them after everyone had read them ( there were no other magazines they wanted to read, so I didn’t have to join officially!)

I bought a Woman and Home last week when I had to wait in hospital and finished the book I’d taken.

There was nothing to read in it. Mostly about what celebrities did or thought.

I won’t be buying it again.

I used to buy it and thought it was an excellent magazine, but that was 20 years ago.
I can’t afford magazines so no longer buy any.The one thing we have started to do is buy The Times on a Saturday as there are supplements with it including crosswords and various puzzles, a magazine and enough reading to last us all week.Some thoughtful articles as well as all the news.

I’ve bought woman’s weekly on subscription for years now it comes once a week unless the postman decides otherwise. It’s friendly and I like it my treat in my older years!🥰

I subscribe to the paper version of Private Eye and a neighbour gives me National Geographic when they have done with it but other than that, the only magazines I have are those that come with memberships to different organisations and charities, RHS, RSBP etc.

Do you have a library membership? It’s worth checking what’s available on online, where you can try out different publications to see what you like … and if you find something you like you could subscribe for a limited time.

Generally I don’t like reading magazines from a screen but will do so if the publication is quite expensive, as many are now, and there are only a few articles which interest me. I do that for New Scientist and New Statesman.

Or you could see what’s on the racks at the hairdresser or dentists.

If you have a library card you can register for their digital magazines and books.
They have a large choice, and freely available.
I read several which I read on my ipad.
We are under Lancashire County Council, but I believe many councils run the same scheme.
Worth taking a look.
