Do you still buy magazines?

I often buy the Sainsburys one for my youngest daughter, she also loves Christmas magazines,especially ones for vegetarians. I treat myself to any sewing magazines I like the look of,anything about textiles really. I agree they are very expensive but I justify it to myself as I don't smoke,drink or buy much food ( except for the cat and rabbit who are also elderly ladies!)

My son bought me a subscription to Saga magazine. I absolutely love it. Lots of interesting articles.

I have Good Housekeeping on subscription. Still enjoy getting it, but must admit, I don’t think it’s as good as it used to be.

When we had our French holiday home we would always buy Esprit d' Ici and Marie=Clare Idee, Now we have to rely on other people buying them for us when they go to France - and the mistakes they make - different Marie-Clare magazines and expensive summer specials instead of the bi=monthlymagazine.

I buy People's Friend Summer special for the airport wait.

I get a free copy of Good Housekeeping and ATM a free copy of Women's Health (post free trial not sure I'm going to subscribe). We get the Times on Saturday mainly for the magazine. I love sitting in bed browsing a mag before I settle down, equally I love reading Hello and OK at the hairdressers, wouldn't dream of paying for them and I don't know most of the people featured but I love to look at the clothes!

Ever since my first post on this thread, my FB page is flooded with magazine adverts!

I thought this thread was a bout newstand magazines. Move from that and I get a wide range of magazines on archaeology, a computer for idiots magazines, national Trust, English Heritage and others.

We are RHS members and have The Garden magazine delivered monthly, along with Gardener’s World. I pass old copies to family and friends, who do the same.

I do pay for a subscription to YOURS magazine. I enjoy reading the articles and the puzzle pages. My son pays a subscription for me to Radio Times.
I did take out an introductory offer to the BBC Magazine, History. Am enjoying this excellent magazine, and pass them on to one of my g.children who is doing this subject at A level. However, once this special price runs out do not think I will continue as it is so very pricey.

I buy 'The Oldie'. It's excellent. Always full of great articles and very good cartoons. It fair cheers me up every month.

I’ve been buying “The Oldie” for DH for a few years and it has led to him and a friend going up to London for “The Oldies” lunch a few times every year.

I no longer buy magazines for myself as they are not worth the money. There’s never anything of interest in them anymore.

My neighbour loans me her Saga magazine and I enjoy the monthly Best of British by subscription. I occasionally buy People's Friend.

My stepfather (94) has his Saga magazine posted through his door every month. Has done for years.

He kindly passes each copy to me. I love Anne Robinson, miss Jenni Murray (RIP) and Jeremy Paxman (Parkinson’s) but turn to the medical queries. I ignore swathes of pages (gardening - no longer have one, recipes - can’t be arsed I just cook good quality food and assemble it on a plate - and Hunter Davies - old man extolling his love life - no thanks).

When I’ve read the 50% that interests me I pass it to my neighbour friend, who passes it back to me once she’s read it and then I take what copies I have out to Málaga each time I go over. My friends out there love it and pass it round. They can’t get a subscription abroad, much as they’d love to!

I do subscribe to the “Christianity” magazine that arrives monthly. My sister kindly passes on her “Private Eye” when she’s finished with it and we buy the Yorkshire Post on a Saturday which gives us plenty of reading for the week plus various crosswords and puzzles.

I used to love reading magazines and as others have mentioned, I can read them all for free using my library service. Despite this, my consumption has definitely declined to the extent that I only download Good Housekeeping or Women and Home every few months.

I think that the main reason is that they present such an idealised version of life. I used to read County Living and the articles about couples who had found their dream homes or individuals who had started up small businesses, were basically the same each month.

I also dislike the airbrushed photos on their front covers.
