I used to have a subscription to Woman and Home but found as I got older (mid 80s) it lost it's appeal. There isn't a 'proper' newsagent anywhere near to browse, only a supermarket with limited choice. Come to think of it the last time I saw a newsagents was at the airport.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't want the weekly puzzle books but something with a bit or reading to it.

Lives baskets full of type magazines. 25 beautiful homes being my favourite. I can’t bear to throw as they were expensive.
My friend did buy me a subscription for 6 months for a really posh magazine, but I would be lucky to even afford a cup & saucer what’s suggested in that one.

I don’t even borrow Good Housekeeping from the library anymore, so little in it to read. Would like to see what Who Do You Think You Are magazine or the History magazine but both so expensive.

I refuse to subscribe and just buy them from Spar when I like, but I always get Chat, That's Life, and Love It! mags. I buy 2 out of every 4 weeks. I find that buying them each week of the month, they all melt into one with the stories!

Thank you all, you have given me food for thought. I haven't seen or read 'The Oldie' but will definitely look for it and for Saga which I haven't read for a long time.

I have had a subscription to Private Eye for many years. I also have subscriptions for the Radio Times and Good Housekeeping.

I do make an exception for Private Eye - I don’t buy every issue, though.

I used to flick though the ‘Homes and Gardens’ type mags at the dentist, but they don’t have them any more. My previous hairdresser (TBH she wasn’t very good) only ever had the ‘celebrity gossip’ type.

I should have added that I am included in my son’s subscription to Readly, which gives me access to many magazines. Good for dipping in without commitment.

I cancelled my Woman and Home subscription and bought a magazine and newspaper app, through Groupon. Far better value.

The only one I subscribe to now is Radio Times, which I find invaluable. I used to have a subscription to Good Housekeeping, and as a teenager I took three ballet magazines - Dance and Dancers, Dancing Times and Ballet Today. Not sure if they even exist today,

We still get our weekend papers delivered, which both have magazines and lots of reading that we often just flick through. We have a Radio Times subscription too and I do read most of the articles in there.

I love home interiors magazines. My children refer to these as " property porn".

We are the same. We are currently on holiday with DD. For both of us compulsory packing is 2 house magazines each. We do have an excuse, as we are both doing house renovations at the moment.

Afterwards I cut pictures out to add to my ideas file for different rooms. But that is just an excuse, we are both fascinated by house interiors, both now and in the past.

Stopped buying magazines a few years ago. They are full of reality show rejects and royalty propaganda.
I used to get them delivered with my newspapers.."I don’t buy them anymore either.
A look at the covers on the stand says Whats inside and there’s the same people week after week usually someone like Colleen Nolan either looking for a man or telling the world about her sex life and Kate or Meghan or both and the trial and tribulations of their lives!
No thanks .

I buy Woman’s Weekly as did my mum and grandmother. I pass it to DD. Lots to read. Gave up other mags ages ago

In our local library there is a box of various donated magazines at 50p each.

This is a great idea!
True story. I was going on a luxury vacation and I wanted a magazine. I went to a bookstore (big selection). One magazine cost me 20 USD. It was a Mindfulness magazine. I still have it. I'll bring it on my next vacation too. I highly recommend buying from the library sales.

I still love magazines and buy 3 or 4 per month. Two home and decorating mags and 2 general women's. Although the Canadian Living magazine that I've subscribed to for at least 20 years has gotten so thin that I may have to quit. It's sad really, that I think they are having a tough go of it financially.

I buy 'The Oldie'. It's excellent. Always full of great articles and very good cartoons. It fair cheers me up every month.

I get The Oldie too.

I buy Woman's Weekly every week. I once went to a focus group they held and liked the way they work. And it's not too expensive,

Dorsetcupcake61 Sun 16-Aug-26 19:41:00

I like Yours magazine. I ask my daughter for a subscription for my birthday every year. Lots of interesting information and articles, recipes, crafts, puzzles.

LucyAnna5 Sun 16-Aug-26 19:35:35

Join Borrowbox via your local Library - free to join, then you can download lots of books and magazines - food mags, homes, antiques, crafts, etc. I like Country Living but far too expensive to buy.

I subscribe to Good Housekeeping and enjoy reading it. I read a page or two each morning as I eat breakfast. I use my local library’s Libby app to read Who Do You Think You Are magazine.

Tenko Sun 16-Aug-26 19:29:04
