Well I’m not a regular on here but from today’s discussion I don’t think I found my people. I have one small tattoo on the inside of my wrist. I do yoga and it’s a beautiful little ‘om’ symbol. It’s one of those discussions that can’t be a discussion you either like them or you don’t or just neutral about them?
Perhaps a read of the book ‘Let Them” would be a good discussion.

Tattoos on older women
(208 Posts)I know tattoos are a thing now, & I’ll probably be slated, but whilst on holiday, & walking round the seaside today, I noticed a lot of woman in their 60s/70s have tattoos.
I think they probably had them in the 90s as the tattoos looked blue & faded.
I know friends of mine had them done, especially around the belly button, shoulder & lower back.
Some regret getting them done, two have had them removed.
Now all the younger people seem to have full sleeves & full thighs, & lower legs, is this trend persuading the older generation to get one?
I know, each to their own, but personally I don’t care for tattoos.
Just wondering what other grans think of tattoos?
Do some grans have them & regret getting them done?

You sound like my kind of person! We don’t all judge people by their skin-art or any other appearances!
Imagine if I said cosmetic surgery is common and makes me 🤮🤮🤮🤮 Honestly folks, give your head a wobble and chill!
Talking of David Beckham and sons who all seem to be addicted to adding to their tattoo collections. Incidentally I don't think in this day and age when every man and his dog have them, it marks anyone out as a free spirit or edgy, that ship sailed a long time ago when they became so ubiquitous. I've heard that for some getting more and more can be addictive, I do wonder whether D&V would feel differently if Harper, being only 15 now and therefore with skin still unsullied, were to cover herself with them to the extent her brothers have. Would the exposed arms in the silken slip like dresses beloved by mother and daughter and girlfriends in law, who don't appear to have any visible tattoos, look the same if the arms were covered in lots of illustrations or a homalie or two in some ancient script.
Dedications to a significant other who may not be the lifetime partner always reminds me of a Catherine Tate skit when she played the schoolgirl, Lauren I think her name was. Lauren had a tattoo of "Ryan" who she subsequently broke up with, later heard muttering to friends when lining up a prospective boyfriend "does anyone know a Ryan?"
homalie homily
Was it 'The Glums' when he had "I love Sue" tattoed on himself?
It was supposed to say 'I love suet pudding', but he couldn't stand the pain.

Oh that is funny
Some tattoos are works of art but I’d still prefer them hanging up on a wall instead if seeing them on anybody’s body
Why, just why do people think they enhance their looks? They're dreadful blemishes Each to their own of course, but I'd rather not look like Popeye the sailorman
Absolutely repulsiveon anyone any age. Most just trying to copy so called celebrities who hqve far too much money they dont know what else to spend it on.
Is it just me or does anyone else find as they get older, they care far less about how people choose to to look & care far, far more about other's rudely expressed opinions?
I cannot see why would anyone want to be branded if of sound mine. I would never comment though, but they turn my stomach. Someone in my teens has been walking around with my name on both his hands, I never saw him again after he did it.
If I can see them, I don't like tgem. Often wonder about how many with tatoos on visible areas would be happy to just accept scaring, marks through injury and not expect any attempt to be repaired on NHS.
I feel the same, and the same about my opinions on others' choices.
I've realised nobody cares what I think (and rightly so)
My grandfather who I sadly never met was tattooed from the neck to his ankles( but not below the wrist). He was in the army and his best mate was a tattoo artist so used him as a canvas. When I found this out I was amazed because my grandmother was very strait laced and photos of him show a very dapper clean cut man. When they went on seaside holidays she would only let him on the beach before 7 am and after 7 pm. The tattooist got drunk one night punched the Sergeant Major and then ran away. We still have the old tattoo box in the family! I remember sailors used to have a swallow tattooed on the fleshy part below the thumb on the back of the hand. I find them interesting but couldn’t face one myself!
I've always wanted a tattoo of a certified band so I got one on my wrist when I was 63 years old. Also underneath a 2 inch one of a yellow, blue and green hummingbird! Thrilled with it. Thats it though .... don't need anymore. Everyone to their own.
Well according to some of you guys, I’m going to be hideous, rough, common and look revolting. 🤣🤘🤘I’m planning on having my first ever tattoo in October. I’m 67. I have androgynous alopecia, I have a bald tea plate size spot on the scalp. From the back I have been mistaken several times for a man. It makes me feel really self conscious and miserable. I wear hats and have hair pieces but obviously in this hot weather can’t wear them. I thought about it long and hard and have chosen a feminine black shaded rose to have tattooed on the bald bit!
I personally find well designed tattoos beautiful and always complement the people wearing them. I often have an urge to stroke them.🤣 my moto is ‘do no harm’ I wouldn’t dream of being so nastily judgemental about peoples choices. Everyone is allowed their own opinion but please try and keep the harshness and rude comments to yourself, it comes across as bullying and hurtful. By the way if it goes well, I also have a receding hairline line and am researching tattoos to have there!
My husband had a few tattoos done when he was 16/17…one for his mum and dad..one with his sisters name and one with both his niece and nephews name…he regrets them now as people assume they are mine and our children’s names.
He has offered to have them changed but hasn’t got round to it !
Some years ago my friend’s son told his mother than he was thinking about having a tattoo and couldn’t make his mind up what to have. His mother reminded him of the things he was obsessed with while growing up, particularly Thomas the Tank Engine which he swore he would love for ever.
He decided against it.
I think the whole tattoo business took off when David Beckham started having them.
I loathe them unless they’re discreet and out of general sight, but that’s just my opinion.
Dame Judi Dench and David Dimbleby both had tattoos when they were older. I'm thinking of having a very small heart with my late husband's initial inside it, that will mean something to me.
I like your style Sparkynan, I think you also need to treat yourself to new wardrobe to go with it

Good for you! I think that's a great idea!
I hate tattoos on anyone! These full sleeves are just gross on a man even more gross on a woman. I just don't get them. Yuk!
Don't mind them on men.
Don't much like them on women . Most of them just seem random , faded-inky and disfiguring.
However each to their own . I have had pierced ears from my teens onwards. My late mother use to think that pierced ears were the work of the Devil. Eeeerrr.... obviously they'r e not......
Omg all the negative comments about tattoos! I got my first a little bluebird on my shoulder when I was 25, it wasn't the done thing. I got it re coloured years later I love it. Since then I have 4 more on my shoulders and upper arms and a tiny ; on my foot. I love all of my tattoos I used my freedom to choose what I wanted! To all those who are hating them on other people! mind your own business!
Oh btw I'm now 71 and looking for another one.
