I’m doing a presentation on the 1960s and thought I’d start it off with a typical piece of music.
As the talk is of life in England - our experiences and recollections, I’d like to be a British group or singer.
Thank you

Just the opening bars take me back to being 17. It was my best friend's and my favourite. Sadly she died in her 30s. Reminds me of her.

For me it’s “Feelin Groovy”. Slow down you move too fast, got to make your morning last etc,

Probably all of the above but what about England swings.
Remember bobbies on bicycles two by two.
We definitely swung!

Downtown by Petula Clark. As a little girl living on the rural edge of a small place in the Midlands the idea of it seemed so glamorous! It still gives me the urge to see ‘the bright lights’ where ‘there’s music and people and they’re young and alive’ (to quote Morrissey).

All of them!! Many have particular memories. Hey Jude, being snogged by a John Lennon lookalike in an Oxford College. Tom Jones, first kiss to Green, green grass of home, Delilah was Italy one year, Greece the next. Lots and lots of Oxford balls with Marmelade, Creedence Clearwater Revival, FourTops, Dudley Moore, Marsha Hunt and many many others. And steel bands that were all the rage. We really never had it so good. First husband recently sent me a spread sheet with all the balls and groups and had he left any out. Glad I'm not still married to him!!. But it was a good time.

I was 7 years old when i first saw the Beatles on our TV ,every record they made i liked ,still listen to them
A record i liked was
Judy in disguise(with glasses)
Cant remember who sang it. was a John ? And his band.
I remember in 1968ish , going to Alconbury USAF Airbase on Independence day weekend.
The Tremeloes played in one of the Hangers.
When they came off stage i asked Chip Hawkes for his autograph.
He was really nice and signed my autograph book.
Lots of 60 tunes for some reason remind me of Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach, being taken on the roller coaster by my cousin who was 6 years older, who i had a secret crush on (blush)

Ooh, Casdon the Temptations were the coolest band on the planet...Ain't too proud to beg 1966, all nighters at the Twisted Wheel. Still going with all night turned into Sunday afternoons for us elderlies - tempus fugit and all that!

And how could I forget Adam Faith, my first crush❤️ Someone else's Baby

Halfway to Paradise Billy Fury for very early 60s memories

Loved The Animals, House of the Rising Sun. Decades later I realised they were singing about a whore house.

Oh my gosh. Just relived my teenage years singing every song as I read them. Not a bad choice amongst them. I was 10 in 1961 with an older brother who loved music too. So, the whole of the 60's were filled with the music I still love. casdon can never sit if I hear Get Ready!

Ha ha said the clown the Yardbirds. It reminds me of her going to the long counter in a record shop, there was a step leading up to it and she slightly lost her balance and did a sort of curtsey, stood up and said can I have Ha ha said the clown!

Where do you go to my lovely?,
Streets of London,
Mr Tambourine man.
Many Beatles tracks: from Revolver and the White Album,
Go now.
There really are so many tracks, I love so many of them.

Emelie321 Mon 18-May-26 17:09:19

Why are there still so many American tracks being given a mention? All great - but not British!
I also think The Who's 'My Generation' is perfect for the occasion.
But if not, what about Gerry and the Pacemakers ' Ferry Cross the Mersey'?

Music from the north of Britain really arrived in the 60's - the Beatles of course - but they weren't the only ones.
This decade brought a definite challenge - if not a move away - from the previously London-centric pop scene.
