Colestyramine - anyone else use this for bile?

I had a test for bile mal absorption. Apparently I don’t have it but still have had problems with urgency etc. and diagnosed with colitis.
I had my gall bladder removed about 7 years ago but have had this problem for many years beforehand . It wasn’t mentioned though before my operation.
I was referred to a consultant last year in May, my appointment letter came through quite quickly, all good, until I noticed it was for June this year, not last year.
When things have been really bad I have taken budesonide which helped , for a while but the gp won’t prescribe it more than once. Which is v strange.
Has anyone else taken budesonide and cud it help?

Have you got bile acid malabsorption? I have this after having my gall bladder removed many years ago. I developed chronic diarrhoea and was eventually diagnosed with BAM after having a sehcat scan.

I now take colesevelam tablets to absorb the bile.

Look up BAM on google. There is also a good group on facebook for help and advice with this.

I have suffered with this condition for years and agree that everything is worse since gall bladder removal. Have you tried Silicol Gel sachets? At the moment these help me a lot. Expensive but often on special offer.
Nobody realises how debilitating and embarrassing this condition is.

Have just joined the site and your post popped up.

I suffered with unexplained explosive emissions 💩 for 25 years… medics all just said IBS.

Life was pretty miserable a lot of the time and I was living off Loperamide if I went out to eat and holidays were horrendous for me! Family don’t really understand the fear 💩💩💩 you feel.

In 2012 I found an article about Bile Acid Malabsorbtion by Dr Mark Porter in The Times.

Rushed off to my GP clutching all the info I’d researched about it and he agreed to prescribe me colestyramine resin powder sachets to trial.

It was like a miracle. Immediate cure and have been drinking one sachet mixed into water every day since. No side effects whatsoever and I have had my life back.

Lots of individuals that have gall bladder removal suffer with BAM and take Colestyramine with fab results.

I had my op last September and was taking imodium instants once a day. I was still having pain in the site of the non existent gall bladder and my gp suggested bile binders. Whilst these are good overall, I still find that am unreliable first thing in the day which is having an negative impact on my life. Upping the dose isn't good so I was looking for strategies.

I had my gallbladder removed 16 months ago. I had diarrhoea but no pain associated with it. I looked at several forums concerning cholecystectomy and discovered that diarrhoea following surgery is very common. Fortunately for me, it settled down after two or three weeks. I still watch my fat intake, but eat a normal diet.
I didn't need any medical intervention, I'm sorry you are suffering and do hope you find resolution soon.
I'm no help at all on the medication front.

No never heard of it, but just read up that you can end up constipated, stomach pain, or itchy skin 😳
