Looking for Australian death.....

I think this might fit better in Genealogy, but get fewer viewings - I'm trying to find out if my probably second cousin has died in West Australia. I was corresponding with her until last year (by airmail since she hasn't been online)
but no letters now since last summer.

She would be 86 or 87 by now. The thing is I tried last year but have no idea where to find a recent death record, although I have been working on family history for years.

I can's afford to update my Ancestry sub. Is there anyone actually in Australia who could help? Or with a better ancestry sub? I'd be glad of help.

Just look up her name and see if there was anything in the newspaper obits. Ancestry.co won’t give you really recent stuff in Australia, it is different from the UK records.

you could see if there are any facebook community groups from area she lived in and ask for any information.

If you Google her name and the place she lived any obituaries will come up.

You could try Rootschat .com, which is a genealogy forum and has members all over the world. If you start a thread in the relevant Australia forum someone will probably offer to help look locally. There could be a problem if she is still alive, as no one will be able to provide information then. But if you are only looking for evidence of death someone will probably look for an obituary. It's a free forum by the way with lots of very knowledgeable and experienced members - hopefully I'm not breaking rules talking about it on here.

If you know her town google Obits and with luck, the local Newspaper obits will probably come up. Start from when she last wrote to you.Or are as AWTY suggests Try roots chats. If you get nothing with your cousin try her parents.

That might prove difficult as the second cousin is 86 or 87!
Does she have any other close relatives in Australia who might know?
It could be that she is ill, incapacitated and has had to go into a care home. I fear that is what may have happened with a cousin of mine who ceased contact with the rest of us. No trace of her death on Ancestry and no contact at all from her DC.

I would write a letter to The Occupier at her address explaining who you are and asking if they could help directly, or by passing the letter onto their landlord or estate agent.

Thanks everyone. I think RootsChat - which I have been on before, but not for a while - might be a good bet.

If not I will try a letter. I do have a possible address for her brother, but the last I heard he had Alzheimer's....

Will keep trying!
