Are heat pump tumble dryers worth buying?

We've had one (AEG) for more than 12 years. I bought it because it was much more efficient in terms of electricity consumption so, though it was a little bit more expensive than others, I think the reduced power bills will have covered this. I should add that it has never broken down and has lasted longer than any other tumble dryer we've bought.
It is a "good" brand so even a model without a heat pump would have cost more than the average.
I'd always say not to buy a cheap tumble dryer as there have been many recalls of these due to fire risks.
We run our dryer at night on cheap power so also needed a model with a timed delay.

Keeping a tumble drier in a garage can invalidate the warranty. It’s best to check the terms of the warranty.

Hi all, can anyone tell me please if you can get a damp (not quite dry from the line outdoors, it has just started raining, for instance) wet king size duvet cover into a 3kg tumble dryer?

Because of builder error my dryer is in the back sunroom rather than with the washing machine in the utility room, looks less like a utility room with the curtain.

Laura can I ask why you do that? Is the machine particularly ugly. Not being nosey (well I suppose I am) but I am intrigued!!

No Trisha it’s a curtain that covers the machine which I roll back when in use.

Just be aware that some dryers don’t like being too cold! Mine is in an outhouse and does not work under a certain temperature, not quite sure what it is but think hard frost.

LauraNorder - is that an anti-vibration gadget on top of your machine (stripey blue thing)? And if so, does it work as our washing machine vibrates terribly noisily when it spins! We've tried altering the little legs underneath but it makes little difference...

Heat Pump tumble dryers are slightly more expensive to purchase than normal ones BUT cost a lot less to run and are much more eco-friendly.
I purchased a Beko one when I moved to a flat a couple of years ago, and have never regretted it. Previously, in my house. I had a vented dryer used in winter and whirlygig in garden for summer.
Yes, they do make them with far too many programmes - but I only use the same one every time. As it has a good sensor which means that it stops when there is no more water in the clothes, do not bother with changing programmes at all.
Easy and cheap to run, easy filter to clean and condensor tank provides de-ionised water for my house plants. Cotton clothes that dried ANY other way need lots of ironing, do not need any when dried in this machine.
With this machine it means that my weekly wash is all done, dried, folded and put away within a few hours.

Buy another standard dryer just to “finish off” items you’ve mostly dried outside.

Actually, heat pump dryers are far more economical that conventional dryers and I have had my old one over 30 years so I really don't think I am being wasteful with the earth's resources.

I’ve had this reasonably priced Hoover dryer for four years now Kitty, it’s the best one we’ve ever had. I have an ironing press so I do iron bedding because I love crisp sheets but I really don’t have to. Haven’t ironed anything else for four years and we don’t look like rag bags honestly.

Mine broke down in January. It lives in the garage.
I have had both vented and condensed saw these and the selling points.. Interesting... But then I saw not suitable for being placed in the Garage.
I went for another vented on, as I have the vent already but OMG so complicated I can use it via my phone, how many choices do you need?

My neighbour has researched tumble drying -v- ironing costs and came to the conclusion that tumble drying a large number of items is cost-effective compared to ironing same number of items.

I’ve got one and went for aaa rating. It does the job, takes a lot longer than the old ones, but yes I don’t really iron.

I was going to say I'd never heard of them but investigated and yes - our tumble drier is a heat pump version!
No-one mentioned the different types at Curry's when we bought it. It's a Bosch and was sold to us as a wonderful piece of equipment.
It was more expensive but not outrageously so.

However, I find it unnecessarily complicated and only use two programmes but yes, many items don't need ironing after drying.
Anything that does I hang on the line anyway.
