Supermarket items out of stock

I have had trouble getting basmati rice, Sainsburys & Waitrose have no stock. Found some in local village shop/post office though. They had toilet tolls when nowhere else had any too.
Family shop & I think they have to make many more visits to warehouse to keep shelves stocked. I did frequently use shop before pandemic and will continue to do so, hopefully, when all this is over. Small businesses need support.

On the plus side - my SIL discovered Jaspers would deliver their greengrocery to we vulnerables. They are so good but I made the mistake of paying upfront for three deliveries of their Combo boxes. To give you an example - the mixed salad bag yesterday weighed 1 lb. Now there is only so much salad two people can eat ! There were 2.5 kilos of carrots, 2.5 kilos of tomatoes included. I am now looking through recipes of carrot dishes and tomato soup !!Not complaining, we found it quite funny and thrilled to get 15 eggs.

Morrisons, I got fresh lasagne sheets and a pack of dried lasagne sheets with my online shop this week.

Just back from Sainsbury's & the only thing I saw missing was flour- except for bread flour- they had loads of that. I didn't need any so it did not bother me but I do wonder is all these people buying the flour actually know what to do with it!
I know my DiL would not know how to make a cake or pastry. Luckily her son does as Grandma taught him!
Don't get me wrong DiL is lovely but no cook.

Hattiehelga - I've been trying to get condensed milk for weeks now and still haven't found any despite me looking in all shops near to me. Don't know if I'm too late on the day or they just aren't getting it it, so annoying.

b1zzle - try eBay. My husband has successfully ordered all sorts of foods from eBay, e.g. organic prunes & walnuts, spelt flour. All have been excellent quality.

My last delivery was from Iceland and I didn't get the stew packs of vegetables I ordered. Just one cauliflower which admittedly was a giant. The milk went off quite quickly though. Otherwise I thought they did really well. I've managed to get a Sainsbury's slot this time so have ordered 1 of a lot of vegetables in addition to the casserole pack so that way I should get some. I could have let it go a bit longer save for the milk and vegetables. It seems easier to get slots now although you still have to take them when you see them. I seen Brakes delivering a couple of times and had never heard of them before so I'm going to check them out.
My life is all about food deliveries right now.

Where has all the condensed milk gone ?! DH desperate for banoffee pie but impossible to find.

Terribull I bought a delivery pass for Asda, this means I can book a recurring slot. At the moment my slot is 4pm Friday, so I'll find out what I get then!! On the other hand I find Asda has hardly anything in, and the amendments I paid for last night are not included in this evening's delivery - you takes your chance!!

I couldn't get eggs last week, but my daughter managed to get them from Sainsburies, she also got me flour from Waitrose.

20 years oh my days. Kellogg’s will be very pleased.

I do hope you find some supplies but like others have said maybe worth buying bulk online.

Aldi do a very good fruit and fibre.

It seems Aldi has plenty of stock compared to some of the larger supermarkets, my experience is Sains eggs are bought up very early on every day, plus they don't have the normal amount delivered. Asda seem to be low on bread.

I cannot get yeast anywhere though.

I've usually buy 1% milk. I find semi too rich and skimmed a bit thin so this is ideal. It's no longer available but I have discovered Arla milk which tastes similar but costs a lot more.

I understand the problem with flour was not the product itself, but the packaging - usually it goes out on large bags to bakeries but they closed and ceased to buy and suddenly it was needed in huge quantities of 'home baker' sized bags! I suspect many of the other 'shortages' we are now seeing are similar. as people seem to have stopped the selfish 'panic buying'.
Many of the 'supermarket brand' products are made by Kellogs and packed in different boxes, but are identical.

I managed to get flour in a polish supermarket, the only thing I can’t find anywhere is baking powder. My milk man delivers
eggs, lovely Burfords, probably top dollar, but I’m happy to pay because they’re my favourite!

I too have the Kellogs brand usually but DH brought in Asda own brand and I found it better, same with their Weetabix.

This is a weird one it's Rose's lime cordial, its for my very elderly mother who loves it mixed with lemonade, apparently other brands aren't the same, im not sure if the lack of it is virus related or not but i havent seen any in my local tesco or sainsburys

Cleaning products are in short supply and no disposable glove - I keep getting size small Marigolds!
Most other products I seem to get or at least an acceptable substitute.

Flour is the obvious rarity - but I’ve got some in the cupboard and I’m not a baker so minimal use.
Espee All-Bran has been on the shelf in our Tesco - DH has been getting it without trouble.

@blzze saw dried chickpeas and split peas in Waitrose the other day (not a place I go to at all regularly due to higher prices though)

Got excited today - click and collect from my local supermarket. However, sweet potatoes are the size of my head, parsnips are smaller than carrots (but carrots missing from order), milk date expires tomorrow. How disappointing. Why can’t they get it right?
Of course no flour or rice available.

I managed to get some bread flour last week but still no yeast so it's sitting forlornly in the cupboard. My next door neighbour is knee deep in self raising flour - her nephew got her a 40lb sack!

I'm really surprised that people keep to the same brands of products, have you tried any stores own products, which are usually made by the same people who make the original product anyway, ie: bleach, Domestos might kill all known germs, but so do any stores' own bleaches, & most cereals are produced by the same manufacturers, but have a stores own label. I buy whichever is the cheapest, & I've never been able to tell the difference.

Here in S.W Scotland we had a few weeks without pasta,flour,tinned tomatoes , handsoap,cleaning products but in the last 2 weeks everything seems to be back in stock. I haven't been a supermarket since lookdown and have all of my shopping delivered.

I can get most cereals but our Sainsburys still doesn't have plain or self raising flour. Can't get tinned fruit there either.

I have been having food deliveries, but I cannot get plain or SR flour, or dried yeast. My daughters look out for things I cannot get, and I try to order things for them if they have had problems. We couldn’t get bread flour, so did an online order for 10 bags and shared with my daughters, but it took almost 3 weeks to arrive. The thing I miss more than anything is being able to do a little shop at Marks and Spencer’s. There are a few things I buy there that I can’t get elsewhere, or of similar quality elsewhere. I have not been to a shop for almost 8 weeks, but I think I might drive to M&S one day next week, and be ‘alert’ during the shopping. Following advice on here (thank you) I will go pm. I will get a few birthday cards while I am there too!
