Recovery from coronavirus

A month on a ventilator is a long time regardless of what the illness is. Being sedated for that length of time can cause problems but fantastic that they have recovered enough to be discharged.

DH and I had all the symptoms and are now fully recovered. We weren't tested because we didn't need to seek treatment.

The firstperson to get the virus in our town has left hospital after a month on a ventilator.
She has to learn to walk again. I do not believe you ever fully recover from the damage caused to the lungs.

I have heard it more than once on tv that Germany doesn’t record a CV death unless that’s what caused the death. I have also heard ‘experts’ on TV say that many of the people that have died here would have died before their time anyway. There is so much information that we’re being bombarded with from the media it’s no wonder we get confused.

And Daisy why not take some time to read up on the totally different approach to testing between Germany and UK?

suziewoozie there's no need to be unpleasant about it. I was only wondering why Germany have had 135,633 cases with 3,856 deaths and we have had 103,092 cases and 13,729 deaths.

Right now I’ve stopped shouting - I can’t imagine for one minute that there’s a reliable body of data in any country on who has recovered. Some people have recovered who were never in the figures as bring infected, some are discharged from hospital to continue recovery at home, and some will be permanently damaged in some way - heart, lungs. Testing negative after having tested positive is nothing to do with having recovered

I'm always amazed by the very old ones who've recovered. A gorgeous lady who was over 100, nothing of her but she obviously had a good constitution. Lovely to see.

Cried after the nurse had died just after her baby was born by caesarean section. How really sad was that ? Baby alright, aww.

DaisyL I’m going to shout this because I’m sick of posting it -THERE IS NOT A SHREAD OF EVIDENCE THAT GERMANY RECORDS ITS DEATHS DIFFERENTLY and no one who’s posted that comment has ever produced any .

Matt Hancock and Dr Whitty have both recovered as has Nadine Dorries. There must be more MPs who have had it, given their proximity to each other before Parliament dissolved.

Perhaps we are being more cautious than other countries and waiting until people are fully recovered and there is no chance of a relapse.

My problem really is that all other countries are publishing recovery figures except for us. I am sure that everyone does it differently and there are certainly people who will take a very long time to recover - but not to give any figures! It would be encouraging just to have some figures. After all Prince Charles has recovered, and we are told that Boris Johnson is now testing negative.

There can be no reliable figure of survivors if people who 'think' they may have had Covid-19 are not tested.

An acquaintance of mine was taken to hospital, very seriously ill with all the symptoms of Covid-19, yet had two negative tests before finally, at death's door, a third test came back positive. She is now said to be recovered from the virus, but is having to learn how to walk again, is permanently confused and is still on oxygen. She's only in her mid-fifties.

DaisyL, there is noticeable lack of reliable figures so far. They can't be up to date, either, with delays in hospitals reporting deaths.

I suppose the reported cases (all hospital admissions) minus the death figures would give some idea of recovery rates - but only in hospital. Those (the majority) with less than severe symptoms won't be included.

Can I just say that 3 people have gone home from the hospital that my dd works at, they n ow have a little bell which they ring when someone goes home and a round of applause.

There's a programme on tonight about the people who've survived this terrible virus. Think it's ITV at 8pm.

I think that many people who are seriously ill end up with long term lung problems and many will not be completely cured. Quote from an article in the Express 'Only recently virologist Christian Drosten drew attention to what long-term symptoms may occur even after healing from a severe course of infection.

Dr Drosten said on his daily NDR podcast: “Over a month after hospital discharge, patients are still generally weak, especially those who have had more severe courses.

Lung function also does not appear to be good after surviving a severe infection.”'

We must have as well. Many will have recovered at home so won't show up in any figures. It would be good to know how many have gone home from hospital and are well
