Ready made curtains - help!

I don't remember that one POGS. But did use the one in East Street. I got these in Thurmaston - they are so much more 'professional' nowadays.

POGS any idea where the name Dunelm came from? It always seems strange to me!

Last time I bought curtains I was very anti the eyelet sort but I soon discovered that there are a lot of them about and eventually I bit the bullet and bought some. They were extremely easy to hang and actually look quite good. The only thing is I don't think you can put them in the washing machine due to the metal bits, which is a nuisance. Has anyone tried this?

It was down Churchgate .

I had to look up the date to remind me , it opened in 1984.

It was a case of sell it cheap and stack it from floor to ceiling but it was good stuff.

Do you remember ' Brierleys ' Belgrave Gate? I think Dunelm took Frank Brierleys style on board and it worked.

Does ‘Dunelm’ have anything to do with Durham? There’s something floating about on the edges of my memory connecting them (or maybe I’m imagining it!)

This is making me smile to myself.

I used Brierleys to get my ' bottom drawer ' together. No doubt if we said ' bottom drawer' kids today would wonder what on earth we were on about .

I sat here and thought to myself ruddy hell I still have and use tea towels and towels as spare old mop ups , a plastic colander, kitchen utensils etc. I bought from Brierleys in the 70's

If the queen can do it , so can I .

The name Dunelm comes from the Latin Dunelmensis,
Coming from Durham ( University) with a degree.

Bottom drawers! Did anyone else have one?

I did start to buy some cutlery from Boots, I think it was, for my bottom drawer which I still use to this day.
However, I did marry someone else and not the man I thought I would be marrying in those days.

I was never orfanisex enough for that but we did get some engagements presents. As i recall they were cut glass sherry glasses (very handy) and some pan's!!

Blessed phone seems to think the pans needed an apostrophe.

Somewhat irrelevantly, I seem to remember that the Bishop of Durham signs him(her)self 'Dunelm'.

Re eyelet curtains, I have never had any, as I have the impression that they would let too much light in at the top. Is this right?
I desperately need new curtains in the bedroom which gets a lot of light, from street lights as well as natural light. Currently there is a pleated fabric pelmet, which is a real dust gatherer. It matches the curtains which we inherited with the house and which are horrible. I did get a quotation from a local firm, but the cost of a ( padded) pelmet was more than the made to measure curtains, so I did not go ahead. Any ideas, please?

I am a recent convert to eyelet curtains. From Dunelm as it happens. Good quality and a lovely patterned lining.
Cabbie21 they don’t seem to let anymore light than previous pinch pleat ones. I think the secret is having the poles at a sensible height above the window?

I’ve been meaning to upgrade our bedroom curtains ever since we changed the colour scheme... well over a year ago! So inspired by this thread, I trotted off to Dunelm yesterday and found something suitable. As they were so reasonably priced, I could then justify some new cushions for the living room sofas!
As it happens they’re the eyelet variety, ours do let in a bit of light but not as much as I was expecting and they do have a blackout lining, I’m a bit obsessive about sleeping in a dark room! On the plus side my old boy pointed out it will also mean a through flow of air in the warm weather when the windows are open. Another one of my musts! Fussy, moi??

I had some ready made from Dunelm which were not well made and the colour was dreadful. Why I bought them I do not know.
My sister and I got our mum to make our curtains. And she was really good making them for a local soft furnishing fie a firm in Bristol.
We still complain, "where's Mum you need her." RIP mum we miss you. 17 yrs on. xxxx
