Funky hair on Gransnet

I've got cropped spiky hair and last year went for a plum streak to liven it up which I was very pleased with. However I swim a lot so it didn't last overly long and it was quite costly so my hairdresser suggested Bleach London Rose which I now use. It's a lurid pink in the bottle but honestly doesn't dye the hair that colour at all!!It blends the grey and gives my hair a softer look with, in some lights, a little glimmer of pink. It's more subtle than the streak I had though. I'm quite taken with your hair suzied. It looks great.

I think the words "soft perm" and "demi wave" have given me the palpitations since my mum used to let loose on my lank, thin, greasy teen hair with a "pinup" home perm!

shysal no its doesn't rub off, it washes out gradually.

In that case Anya I will expect to see you in the future with different hair!

I am such a wimp - my hair is in a shoulder length, layered bob and I have it coloured medium brown to cover grey roots. I would love to have a soft perm because I am so bored with straight hair but am too scared in case I hate it!

So glad you have recovered well anneey, welcome back ! I fancy trying the Pixie Lott paint on a few strands. I am getting very bored with my pepper and salt look. My hair is still darkish so not sure which colour to try, something bold perhaps. Does it rub off onto your pillow suzied?

Oh I did! I had it done at the hairdressers, then, when it faded just bought a temporary colour and went over it. I found the bright pink the nicest, as it fades to baby pink.

Not sure if I've done it right.

suzied, your hair colour is perfect - subtle but not so subtle as to be un-noticeable. A few years ago, my two GDs gave me a temporary pink streak. As we were going on holiday to France, I was pretty sure that it would wash out with a few swims around the pool and so it proved. Wouldn't mind trying it again with one of those temporary paints, but I'd keep the GDs out of it!

tanith in the late 60s I used to give my hair a rinse with a shot of gentian violet in the water. This gave it a pale purple hue.... Saturday night dance I worked in a hospital and got a few spoonfuls in a specimen bottle 'for the weekend'.

Janea your friend's hair looks fabulous, I'm just not that brave.

Will try to post a pic of my hair with the Paint wash in wash out colour Hawaii, as you can see it's not bright blue on top of white/ grey hair but takes out any yellow tones and does give it a nice shine. Pic doesn't really show the blue but hopefully gives you an idea! The pink one is quite fun, where the hair is slightly different shades it does give a highlight look.

rosesarered I don't only have myself to please which is why I'm thinking of a coloured streak rather than the whole head - dh definitely couldn't handle an entire head of purple.

downtoearth just to say my shorter side is only shorter by about 2", just enough to show there's a difference. One side below the ear, the other at chin level. As it is razored and tousled I can often adjust the sides and fringe without any damage

Suzied I like the sound of the temporary colours, especially as I only want a shot of purpleish, plumish. Just as long as it would be easy to do a streak or three...... could use tin foil or cling film to separate from the 'untouched' hair.

Sorry but your friends purple hair reminds me and not in a good way of my old headmistress she would come to school with a different colour hair every week, purple, blue, pink, green.

Mine is short,natural colour almost black,steel grey now,so put pure blond high lights in,looks good,everyone agrees.

I can imagine what my DH would say if I was suddenly to turn up purple haired ( something along the lines of ' have you gone stark staring mad?') So it's lucky that I don't want a funky hair colour ( nothing to do with age, have never particularly wanted it.)
However, if you have only yourself to please and you really want to Coolgran then go for it.( post a pic of your hair afterwards.)

I have been every colour when I was younger ..including green from not reading instructions with ash blonde...in later years blonde highlights low lights various shades...with inverted bob.(short layered back much longer sides cut sharply diagonally....since going silver and spiky am now looking at the same stylecoolgran shorter one side longer on other and have the whole lot the grey silver colour with some purple tips just growing longer for the shape to start basic is there ..have it cut every 3 weeks as it grows really quickly ....funky grans

Why not try one of those wash in- wash out funky colours. I have grey/ white / brown hair and use Pixie Lotts Paint from Superdrug. A little tube lasts quite a long time, as if you've got short hair you don't need much. You just rub it into damp hair and leave for 10 -15 minutes. I've tried the blue one and the pink one. You also get a fade out shampoo with it if it's too bright ( it isn't!) you could just put it on sections if you didn't want to do your whole head. It washes out in about 3 shampoos so you arent committed. I use it all the time.

I have had every colour under the sun in my younger years and also had the long on one side hair first worn by Mary Quant. What is great is that there is so much choice now and it is fairly easy to use .
I am no longer a rebel at 65 and stick to a copper brown shoulder length bob which suits me I am told ! The only thing I rebel about is not allowing my hair to go grey/white or `silver` as some people prefer to call it ! I admire you for having the guts to go for something a bit different , try putting some of the colours you fancy next to your face to see which looks best x

If my hair was suitable then I'd be up for a "slice of colour" I have a couple of friends who have deep red hair and one who until recently had what sounds like the same style as you have but her hair is dark and she had an emerald green fringe. It suited her

I have v curly hair which I just allow to do its thing after a good hair cut every 6 weeks. It is dyed but as natural as possible. If you have the confidence to go for colour go for it.
