New clothes that smell of paraffin

Ohhhh - thought it was just me! I buy the same brand jeans and have done for years. They are all fine but the black ones always stink! And yes, washing doesn't help at all. It's such an odd smell

I've often wondered what that smell was. Fortunately in my case the smell usually goes after a couple of washes. Why in the name of reason do they use paraffin type preservative.

Being careful with money, my favourite fashion houses are TKMaxx & Primark, but some items absolutely stink of the paraffin type preservative they are treated with. Has anyone found a sure fire way of getting rid of this? I've had to take a couple of things back because even after washing the smell made them unwearable. You could smell me coming & sitting in a crowded bus was downright embarrassing :-)
