I am sure that you shouldn't worry, as an 'old-time' district nurse (on a Bicycle!) I have seen many babies who have been born with a flattish
back of head. They all grew into fine toddlers, and shape of head improved as the months went by.

Our latest GS had a flat head. He's almost a year old and is absolutely fine - very perky. Enjoy this new little man.

I think I knew it was just going to be a 'cosmetic' thing and wouldn't affect Louis in any other way , just being a worrywort (sp) all it appears will be well

My mind is eased and I'm so excited about going out next week to finally meet the little chap, both my daughters went last weekend and fell in love with the little fellow ... can't wait for my turn to fall in love. My sons partner sends me pictures of him doing cute things all the time which is so thoughtful seeing as we only met once before for a few days when they told us they were pregnant.

DGS6, now 8 years old, has always had a flat head, and has no problems. Hope all will be well with your Louis.

deedaaI wasn't criticising the Chinese method, far from it. I believe it's far safer for babies to sleep on their backs than on their tummies.
In fact I had little choice in the matter. I worked part-time in Honkgong when DS was born and he was looked after by my Chinese amah. He was carried round on her back, slept on his back, and was not fed anything of which the amah disapproved, like cheese. I had to make it very clear that under no circumstances was he to be given any Chinese medicine, but apart from that I let her get on with it and he was a very happy baby.

I think you ate right deedaa. A couple of our DGC have had this. There are doughnut shaped pillows that you can get which hold the head slightly raised so the skull had a chance to reshape itself. We found them on the internet after the HV recommended them. I think it needs to be done fairly early.

DGS1 had a really flat head and DD1 left nature to take its course. It is not noticeable at all now and he is extremely bright, articulate, good looking - rather like an older version of Jane's really.

I believe it is quite common now that babies are put on their bacvks again. I'm sure it will improve as he gets older.

tanith most Chinese babies have very flat heads at the back, and they are put to sleep on their backs, which probably makes it worse.
My DGD2 was born after a difficult forceps delivery and her head was not flat but quite lopsided.
Like you I was very worried, but now, nearly 3 years later, she is the most beautiful child, the most articulate 2 year old I have ever come across and highly intelligent.

My grandson had a flat head too ...don't know if it's still flat as his hair hides it and he seems very normal. Don't worry

My DGS1 had a very flat head! His dad called him the Mekon!!

He is absolutely fine now..he is 5, lively, bright and happy! I see kids with the helmets on but think that it is not really necessary. HV /GP should be able to reassure.

Babies' skulls are very soft are n' t they. I expect it was the way he was lying in the womb. I'll bet it will right itself as he grows.

Don't you start being a worrisome grandma now.

My ex sil had a baby with a flat head, and the HV said it was because he always slept on his back, and he would grow out of it. He did.

Mr Glass has a double crown he maintains its where he stores his extra knowledge, but I insist his Mother must have dropped him out of his pram.

tanith* DGS1 who is now 7, had a very flat head. My DD and SIL were advised not to lie him in the same position, they were told that if it had been more severe they could have had him fit with a helmet (like a bike safety helmet) that he would wear 23 hrs a day or if they wanted to they could pay privately but the consultant felt it wasn't needed.

It is only just noticeable now so dont worry it will rectify itself.

Mr P has quite a flat head at the back, and he is well over 50 and (so far) seems to be quite normal.
