pushchair for country walks

Is it just me that worries about babies in slings especially over rough ground ? What if the adult slips and falls ? Would the child not cushion the adult and with what consequences ? I saw this happen in the snow last year.

We had a backpack for DS1, but ex-OH got fed up with having his hair pulled and when DS2 arrived coping with two on country walks was given up as a bad job for a year or so - until they could both walk well.

Galen I am glad my DD isn't the only sling swapper. She is now planning to get a cloth wrap around one, African mother style and then permanently adjust the current Manduca one to fit round Daddy. DD didn't appreciate my comment "What do you need another one for?"

Tbh, I think some things just have to go by the board when you have small grandchildren with you. Any pushchair is going to be heavy to push over uneven ground. Sorry to be negative.

I hate those too. Was always worried the wheels would scew off towards the road.

Pushchair and country walks really don't go together. Can remember carrying son for miles through the New Forest. Never attempted it with grandsons.

I can't bear those pushchairs where the wheels twirl around like on a supermnarket trolley! - all my DDs have them. They are supposed to be better for country walking but I always finish up with the wheels going crabwise!

Back in the 70's I had a dark green corduroy backpack/sling which I wore on the front when my baby was young, and then on the back as he grew. Hands free and very convenient. Baby was happy, too.

DD is a sling addict OH prefers a backpack, but DD is always buying/selling/swapping slings!

The 3 wheeler all-terraine buggies are good, but would not go through the average kissing gate. They are also a devil to clean when muddy! I agree a back pack would be easier, but not too comfortable for any distance when GD gets heavier.

Have you tried a baby sling or back pack? My DD uses hers for her son of a similar age. There are a lot of varieties. Where my DDS lives there is a group of woman who promote sling wearing and she has been able to try variety of these. She has come up with a Manduca which suits her and my DGS.

I'd go for something along the lines of a baby/toddler back-pack carrier. There are some great lightweight models on the market.
