There is no point in fishing. When I was younger, I used to go with my dad and 3 uncles. The trip to Bidford or Evesham was great, a day by a river away from the soot and grime of Brum. But I was let into a secret by my seniors. Fish don't bite, between Mid day and 2pm, because the sun is too high. So after 'the break' and a couple of sandwiches, the trick was to surreptitiously keep one eye on the float, with cap tipped over eyes. This was best done, lying on the river bank, with a kreel basket propped under the head, to support the neck, whilst watching said float. Liars!
