Help needed with heirloom repair.

Removing old glue - you could try heating it gently with a hairdryer to see if the glue softens and then use something like an orange stick to scrape it off. If it's very old the glue may be an animal glue as used in woodworking.

To stick the band back on Loctite do a glass glue, which bonds metal to glass. You can probably Google it.

My first thought was also the repair shop . Try locktite glass glue. A Google search says a good soaking of vinegar or WD40 removes old glue and probably with a bit of old fashioned elbow grease.

No! They'd laugh. Do you know how many people apply for that show.
I'm sure they wouldn't be interested in this- it only needs a bit of glue- I don't think they would be able to put it back on its three legs either.
I like it just the way it is, but wouldn't weep to order on TV over it!

Just a thought...this sounds a really interesting item. Do you watch the TV programme 'The Repair Shop'? Would you consider contacting them... it seems just the sort of thing they enjoy restoring.
