I,ve just finished making my Christmas cards for this year
only half a dozen to post now, the numbers have dwindled in the last few years. the rest get handed or put through neighbours letterboxes. I love making greeting cards, I used to make them for a cat charity who had a stall every month in a nearby village.

I used to make my own cards. I watched Create and Craft for the demos to learn new skills. I loved it and tried most of the different ways to make cards (I have a very big stash still) My favourite was decoupage, which, being layers, could affect the postage. I then moved on to designing my own craft sheets, which led to me selling them online. At first they were selling quite well, but I have noticed a decline over the years. Is this because of the postage? Or do people just not send cards anymore? I still enjoy designing and still sell online.

I make cards. They are all hand drawn/ hand painted/ hand woven or hand embroidered or hand cut and some are maybe hand embellished.

I don't use anything pre-cut, stamps or things that are bought except the wire/ card / yarn / beads or whatever.

They are rarely sold these days as they can take a very long time to make.

I make all my own Christmas cards. I don't think people would generally buy something that reflected the time spent anymore.

I used to sell them through art galleries until a few years ago and at craft fairs in the 1970s /1980s in the days when craft fairs were just a few a year - not so frequent as they seem to be now.

I made a card for my son's wedding last year that took two days to make! I'm sure this would price me out of the market much quicker than a postage stamp!

I did think about taking photos and getting the Christmas cards printed to start selling them again that way - I do have an artist friend who does this.
It means she can sell them at a more sensible price and they are all flat so no extra postage costs for being oversized.

My SIL makes beautiful cards, using pressing paper and stamps. I look forward to receiving her cards every year at Christmas. She does it for fun, but doesn't sell any.

Does anyone make their own cards? If you sell them do you feel the cost of postage has made any difference to how many your customers buy?

I make my own handmade cards . I used to sell them but found sales did drop off . I made one sale to another stallholder, she bought 16 Christmas cards

I make my cards with lots of decoupage for family. Too heavy to post .

Yes, I still make and sell cards. Postage has made some people hesitate, but the ones who truly want handmade cards still order without complaint.

A lovely friend of mine makes beautiful cards which she sells for selected local charities. I buy from her to give to those friends and family whose cards don’t need posting. I have also kept a few very special ones simply because they were so poignant and meaningful.

Thank you to everyone for their comments. I sell my cards at a monthly community fair. Christmas is the best month for me but I have regular customers all through the year. I am very aware of the postage costs but expect some cards are still given to their recipients. In my experience people still want "special" cards for relatives and in special occasions. Thank goodness.

I make cards to give to family and friends. It was never my intention to try and sell them.

I've made my own for years , not to sell though ,just for family birthdays and Christmas,
I agree with Esmay, you can buy Christmas cards in packets of 12, not many people will buy single cards except a special person

I've noticed that less people are selling handmade cards these days due to the cost of postage .
I've made cards for years -long before they became a popular make .
I think that especially commissioned cards for a 21st ,engagement,wedding and christening might sell and Chrstmas cards don't .
