Annoying supermarket mistakes.

I also add some water, shake to get all the ketchup etc and add it to slow cooker casseroles.

I'm aggravated by those upside down bottles of mayonnaise, sauces and so on. It's virtually impossible to get the last of the product on to your plate because it sticks to the inside of the container which is a shape that makes it impossible to scrape out with a spoon, spatula or knife blade.
I suppose the manufacturers expect us to simply abandon the last 5% of the contents and buy a new bottle. Bah!

Surely these are not Supermarket mistakes but manufacturers bad design.

It’s not exactly a mistake, but I almost always have to ask the checkout operator to please scan at least some of the obviously heavy items first.

I do self scan now, love it as I pack as I go and know what I'm spending and fast checkout. I don't know if all supermarkets do it but I love it.

BlueBelle - There's a little handheld gadget one can use - sorta like a bottle opener is the best way I can think of to describe it. I use that on awkward jar tops - hold it briefly on one side of lid and then ditto on the other side and it releases the pressure that is sorta suctioning the lid down onto the bottle and I can manage to unscrew it.

Its not for you Kircubbin it’s to secure it for recycling I think it’s a good idea to have the milk lid secured mine doesn’t have it and I m often hunting
I always put cream straight into a jug that goes in the fridge so I don’t use lids anyway
The one thing that does annoy me arevbottles that are so tight I can’t open them they have to go in my door to hold it while I unscrew

Plastic pots of supermarket cream with no lids! So it’s not easy to store any leftover (often here since if it’s just me and dh, only he likes it.)

So now I usually buy the mini glass bottles from the Tom Parker dairy - I find it in Waitrose or from the milkman. Little metal lids, so leftovers can go in the freezer.

I don't think that works if people cut them off.

Apparently the two plastic bits are put on the milk containers so that we recycle the whole thing. Before, lids would be forgotten and not disposed of with the bottles. Stupid? Yes, but presumably it keeps someone in a job!

We find with peel-off lids on cream that only pulling it partly off and then putting a non-fitting plastic lid* on with a weight on top to keep it on works quite well.

* the plastic lids we use are old ones from fruit spreads DD3 used to get through yonks ago.

My pet peeve is clear film tops, that are supposed to peel back, but either just tear off in one corner or reveal a second layer of film. I try to avoid pre-packaged stuff but it is becoming increasingly difficult.
