Why doesn't he cook?

Men are a complete mystery to me...

Mine doesn’t either. Not that I’m saying he couldn’t make something simple if he wanted to. Before he retired he was hardly ever home before 7, too late to start cooking and I wouldn’t have expected him to.
And during our many years overseas, he always worked very long hours and only ever had one day off a week.

He now always clear up the kitchen, and TBH does it perfectly - loads the dishwasher, and unloads it in the morning. Plus he’s totally unfussy and is always appreciative of whatever I give him. So I have no complaints. V

Mine is the opposite, if I am cooking and he is in the kitchen he clears up things I am still using 🤬

Granny Gravy ,,,mine too, and he stands at the sink, takes ages to wash anything, when I'm trying to get in there , I'd rather have the kitchen to myself, but he thinks he's helping...

Primrose, my (very lovely) MIL, used to try to put things away and I’d spend days after she’d left trying to find them 😂

My late MIL used to come and stay with us. She used to dry up the dishes and leave them all along the worktops. Plates, cups, saucepans, cheese grater, Just everything!

I put my hand up to doing this, & my DH moans about it.
I think it's that I put out the amount that looks right on the plate.

No point in saying anything.

DH manages the dishwasher, religiously filling and emptying it. When he empties it any saucepans are put on the hob (the cupboard they live in can't be opened when the dishwasher is open). And there they stay until I put them away. I did once ask him why he didn't put them away but he just looked a bit blank. Don't even think he was aware that he forgot about them. I just decided to be grateful he wasn't someone who sat on their ar** and did nothing.

I remember reading about this a long time ago. Apparently it's a throwback to to caveman days whereby they didn't eat all of their meal in case their next hunt wasn't successful. Who knows. Must admit I find myself doing it sometimes with no idea why.

That’s interesting. I’m pleased to read that other people do this, as DH does and it’s always puzzled me. I’m certainly not complaining because he does nearly all the cooking, but why leave half a dozen bits of cooked pasta and a spoonful of sauce in the pans? He does it with raw ingredients too - I’ll often find half a small carrot or a teensy cube of Cheddar wrapped in clingfilm in the fridge. .

Perhaps your DH knows this riles you, hence he does it all the more.
I suggest you say nothing, don’t respond, don’t challenge and maybe he'll get the idea that you’re not bothered and he will stop playing mind games.

Yes, I think you are being unreasonable but it clearly bothers you so perhaps say something if it bugs you that much.

We take turns cooking but my husband always clears away and loads the dishwasher.
I often rearrange things and retrieve some which are better washed by hand.
What does annoy me though is his seeming inability to close a cupboard door he's opened, whatever room he's been in 🙄

Jamesandjon33 now that is always perplexing. My mum did this even when someone had said they’d like more, - big family meals then. Just odd

Maybe it’s a throwback from some tradition in his upbringing, or in case somebody calls who is in desperate need of one and a half of a potato and a spoon of peas with (I’m presuming) a smallish sliver of quiche.
Cold quiche eaten as a snack next day is not bad though is it?

Just swear to yourself Sago and put them away or leave them out for your husband to do.
