Beds in the study?

I’ve got a futon in my study but I do find that it isn’t the easiest thing to set up in a restricted space and the ‘mattress’ is not very comfortable. I do put a mattress topper on but then that has to be stored somewhere.
Can you store a couple of mattresses under your bed and the one in the 2nd bedroom?

They are 9 and 10.
Not 90 and 100!

9 and 10 year olds are happy anywhere when on holiday it seems to me!

Absolutely.

Surely depends how long they stay for. I wouldn’t give up my study. At 10 and 12 blow up beds should be fine for a few days.

Why can't they sleep on inflatable mattresses?
They presumably aren't living with you over the whole of the summer?

I would not want something as big as a sofa bed thrust on me!

Look at fishing beds I'm 6ft 17 stone and I find them comfy. They can be used as sun loungers too

If your grandson's aren't complaining and you like your room as it is I would stay the same for now .

I ve slept on a blow up bed as an adult more than once I don’t believe there’s any age thing to it and it’s only twice a year

I’ve a single bed with trundle for DGS1, but for some reason I can’t get him out of the toddler bed and into another room. He’s 7, far too big for it, but says it’s comfy.
As long as he’s happy.

I don't use the computer as it is so slow but I can't access stuff stored on it like photos.The table takes up a lot of room so it could go. The parents seem in favour of getting beds so I think I will have to agree and get stuff moved around.

I was going to ask if you work from home.

We have a downstairs study that used to be DM's bedroom and I sometimes wonder where all the stuff has come from that fills it now! It's quite ridiculous.

Could you download the photos on to a memory stick? Get them to help you!

This was us as well but we wanted to see our GS and for him to want to come to us so nice new memory foam divan bed it was and not much space for the desk etc. Neither of us are working so its a small sacrifice.

I have one like that. Useful.

Plus two sets of bunk beds.

I have an IKEA day bed for the grandchildren. It's usually in single bed/sofa mode when I use the room for yoga practice, but pulls out to a big double when needed.

Even if they can struggle on with blow up beds for another year or 2, they could be 6foot+ soon!

Let him pay for the sofa bed as they can be expensive. Futons are also good.
We turned our study/ office back into a lovely bedroom as my husband is retired now, never used much afterwards.

As a separate issue perhaps your helpful son could help you transfer the photos from your largely redundant computer to a more accessible medium. Then the computer could be removed.

We have our third bedroom as an office but it can also house a full width single bed with a decent mattress with another stored underneath. The two mattresses high bed is covered in an Indian quilt and it makes a wonderful exra surface for everything thing from sorting out papers or laundry to making a very comfy perch to watch the a tv attached to the wall. We bought the pull-out beds because Grandson complained he needs a good mattress or he gets a sore back. Previously we had a sofa bed which did not have a thick mattress. He is 6’3” aged 15. We grow giants these days!

I think that’s a better idea than a sofa bed which is a double that they are not going to want to share n a couple of years time.

Unles the parents are going to sleep on the sofa bed and two singles in the second bedroom. Or even a bunk bed.

A single bed (2’6” rather than 3’) with a pull out “trundle” bed under? When nobody’s visiting a few cushions would turn it into a comfy sofa (reading for the use of!)

You say the study is your third bedroom Kircubbin - can they share the 2nd bedroom perhaps if it’s spare? Maybe put in 2 single beds or bunks? That would leave your 3rd bedroom free as a study as it is now (maybe even put in a single size sofa bed - if your other son is living with you, perhaps he could then sleep on that for the short time your GC are visiting?)
Of course, I don’t t know your circumstances so these ideas might be of no use at all.

Sleep on sofas?
We are a large family. Live/holiday in each others' houses.
Different ways to solve problems.
Especially as in your case, it is only twice a year that you have the issue.

Does it have to be in the study?
We have used halls before. Mattresses on living room floor.
Would use the garage if we had to.
