When we stay in holiday lets I leave the baking trays cleaner than they were on arrival.
Another job on arrival is to clean the dishwasher filter and dryer filter they are always neglected.
A little niggle about kitchen equipment I have never stayed in a house that had a salad spinner not everyone eats bagged salad leaves.
I do put things back where I find them even if I consider the placement illogical.

Every bl***y cupboard!
(137 Posts)We arrived at our holiday let yesterday to do the deep clean,
we have not been for months as weāve been fully booked.
Itās a few days of turning and hoovering mattresses, cleaning the oven etc etc.
The place was in really good order when we arrived so I was in a great moodā¦ā¦until I opened the mug drawer, the mugs had been replaced with a whole array of stuff, ramekins, egg cups, shot glasses, toast tongs.š±.
On to the next cupboard, a selection of oven trays a teapot and cafetiere!
The glasses were neatly arranged over 3 cupboards and a drawer.
The hairdryers which live in āhairdryerā bags and hang on the bedroom doors had been put in the utility cupboard..
Who goes to a holiday let and rearranges the cupboards?

We have stayed in many holiday lets over the years. My little ole heart delights at a very orderly space and keep it as near to the same as I can BUT I cant stand those ones who leave a set of orders- shoes may not be worn in the living room etc etc.
Ah, am afraid I ask people to remove their shoes when visiting us, we have expensive wooden floors and a Persian carpets, am not saying a holiday rental would have such expensive flooring but shoes can pick up a lot of muck and is expensive to clean carpets every time. We always take our slippers with us šŗ
Blimeyšššš.
Arriving with oneās bedroom slippers - thereās a first. The hosts must have a panicky moment thinking that you were there for the night!
We used holiday cottages when we had our little dog. Tbh Iām never that invested in a place to bother to rearrange stuff. We expect it to be scrupulously clean, and in good order, with a comfortable bed. Other than that we are not terribly bothered because we tend to eat out.
Saying that, over the years, we can count on one hand the outstanding places we have stayed in and the obvious care the owners of the business have put into their investment. They are to be commended.
I would expect the weekly cleaners to ensure everything was in good order and correctly placed at every clean.
I had a holiday in Southern Ireland which had ramekins!
It also had a potato ricer and a bread oven/cloche and a range of bakeware. It was years ago. Probably 1990s.
We need cupboard tidiers on the decluttering thread.
I wish some bugger would rearrange mine.
My kitchen cupboards were so untidy that on making a Christmas food list I couldn't find what I had .
Over the weekend, I pulled everything out and after cleaning each cupboard rearranged them .
What a boring job .
And how did those cupboards get in such a state ?
I've bought emergency supplies and last year when a small convenience store closed I stocked up on lots of cheap canned goods .
Now sorted .
And my list is shorter.

^You have ramekins in a holiday rental??^
Just sent 9 vintage French ramekins to the charity shop, came home and seen identical ones for sale online for Ā£72 for six! šÆ
Let's hope they fetch a good price for the charity.
How lovely, the charity should benefit from the sale of those. āļø
I have some really nice ramekins but have never chanced upon them in a holiday rental.š¤

Sometimes we have been lucky to get enough mugs or bowls.
Though we stayed in a gorgeous Airbnb in France once that was someoneās home, they left a full fridge and freezer and bottles of wine telling us just to replace whatever we used. Their cupboards were chock full of any dishes or pans we needed.
The only thing they asked is us was to feed the cats and tortoise which we happily did.
The whole family went, it was a fantastic holiday.
We have a gĆ®te , itās in the same hamlet as our home in France.
I think I have organized the cupboards logically- mugs, cups, hot drink things in one wall cupboard, glasses in another and crockery in the third.
Everything matches, and is arranged neatly.
I can see at a glance if anything is missing or broken.
I hate it if when I go in to clean between guests, things have been moved around- because I then have to waste time finding them and putting them back. Itās hard enough getting everything spotless as it is! Luckily it doesnāt happen very often!
I have no idea why any guest would want to move pictures around! There are enough chairs round the dining table and living room for everyone to sit comfortably together and plenty of cushions for all. I donāt have lots of ornaments and the few there are are either high up or unbrakable.
When our grandsons were small and we went to a holiday house the first thing we did was take photos of where all the breakable ornaments were before stowing them safely out of reach. Very easy then to return them to their appointed place on the last evening. I haven't done that with cupboards but do attempt to put things back where I found them.
Before c****, I used to holiday at one cottage since 1993. Everything was in the same place it had been since the first time we holidayed there.
I would wash up and wipe down surfaces etc every time.
Sago I thought you meant you had rented a holiday home for your own holiday and it was so dirty you had to deep clean etc. plus I wondered how you knew where the items had been stored previously.
I was also just thinking that Iād be complaining long and loud to the letting people when it dawned on me that it is in fact your own property and youāre letting it out.
My friend had someone come to her house and after they had used the bathroom, promptly told her her toothpaste was on the shelf the wrong way up and that the had put the correct way for them 𤷠.
As long as the guests are paying good money and leaving the place in a clean and tidy condition with no missing items or damages - jobs a gud un!
It's interesting that some posters say they wouldn't dream of doing such and such in someone else's property.
From someone who has holiday houses, I'd rather the guests didn't have to treat them as someone else's home. It's very much THEIR home for the period they are renting and I want them to feel they can do just as they please.
A person with holiday rentals can't afford to get too precious about what is re-arranged, how many washloads the guests do, whether the cushions are taken outside etc. We lived on site for 5 years, watching it all, and I'd have been a nervous wreck if I hadn't let go of the idea that they were OUR properties. Providing no damage is done, there's nothing that can't be put right.
I'm glad Sago is reading most of the comments here as a bit of fun.

Is it possible that your cleaner is doing it? Putting things in "logical" places?
No itās not the cleaning company, I checked.
I imagine most people staying in holiday accommodation automatically put things were they would keep them at home.
I feel you are asking a lot if people only staying for a week or ten days are to remember where you keep things.
I do, however, appreciate, that it is annoying for you to have to sort through everything and put things back in the places you feel are appropriate.
So write a list and put it up on the inside of every cupboard and drawer as is done, or used to be, in school kitchens for cookery lessons, detailing what is kept in each cupboard.
I doubt it will entirely solve the problem, but those who are willing to put things in the "right" place, but just can't remember where that is, will read the lists.
Imagine being on holiday...
"Shall we visit that tourist spot tomorrow? The one with beautiful waterfall. Have some lunch there..."
"No thanks - I've got to sort out some cupboards"
We stay in a holiday let every summer, and with ten of us and two dogs Iām afraid things do get moved. Different adults emptying the dishwasher means things get put back in the nearest and quickest place. Iām a bit OCD about cupboards so I do try to leave them in the right places before we leave but a 10 am checkout doesnāt leave much time and Iām sure mistakes are made.
One year we stayed in a beautiful house, but there were three sitting rooms, none of which were large enough for all of us together. Iām afraid we did move chairs and cushions from another room, as carefully as we could, and we returned them before we left. I think that different people, different size groups all have their own ways and one personās ideal layout is not anotherās. Definitely not with ten or more people in the mix.

Just me then. I wouldn't dream of rearranging things in someone else's property.
No, I wouldn't either, Kate.
Nor me. We do move things about when we are there but do try to put things back where we found them, if only so that the owners can see they haven't gone missing.
We've bought the odd thing when we 've stayed in some places and left them behind rather than bin them, incase they are useful to others. Usually something we have at home and use a lot.
First reaction was - how lucky you are to have a holiday let......
