Yesterday was a wet windy grey day and I was thinking how lovely it would be to put the tree up but as a family we have always waited for the first weekend in December , until this year both my daughters have just sent me photos of their Christmas trees they put up yesterday [ grin ]

Why not ?
If it's what you feel like doing your decorations early.
This year I noticed as I passed them on the bus that so many people have put their outside decorations up .
Things are sad and depressing in the UK and I thought that it cheers our area up .

We put our trees up yesterday, one in the sitting room, one in the conservatory.

It’s not a job I relish, but I like to see them finished and lit up. I think it looks cheerful for people going past in the dark, especially the conservatory one, (no drawn blinds).

But they will be coming down soon after Christmas Day, probably the Sunday after.

Usually have them up about 4 weeks.

No tree this year just decorations and lights.

Your silver tree sounds lovely Wyllow. I must seek out some pine spray.

It's not even December!

No, but tomorrow is the first Sunday in Advent, so I have put up the nativity that is so placed that it can be seen from the pavement outside my house.

I would not put a tree up yet, by any manner of means, as I swear by real ones, but those who favour artificial trees may well feel tempted.

Mine is up1 Love it. I also loved seeing other people's this after noon while walking in this dreary weather. Garden lights so brighten up the streets.

Ours tree has gone up today and then tomorrow the DC and DGC come for their first Christmas dinner and the GC put new baubles on our tree. It’s our tradition. The weather is so rubbish it’s certainly cheered up the day.
I never criticise people putting their decorations up early because I don’t know what is going on in their lives behind closed doors so each to their own.

FGT , I'd have believed that you had posted your tree....

More lights on garden trees today. Pretty!

According to Gogglebox last night, if you put your tree up too early you tree-ejaculate! 😂😂

This was really lovely.

Christmas only last two days this year?

Have you not heard of the twelve days of Christmas?

Christmas Day is supposed to be the first day of Christmas, not the last.

The world had gone bonkers this year. We had people swathing their hedges with fake cobwebs from the beginning of October, fireworks followed a few days later and now, no sooner is Bonfire Night over than Christmas is upon us... will it be Easter on 15th February (just to get Valentines day out of the way first) ?

My Christmas tree will go up on 24th December as usual and come down on 12th Night.

Each to their own. I find November too early as I'm sick looking at it all by Christmas, but if it cheers people, go for it.

GrannyGravy a house near me put candle bridges in all their front windows. I think it looks lovely and cheery.

My neighbour has his outside fairy lights - first in the neighbourhood - I think it’s lovely. My neighbour J will be disappointed she isn’t the first this year 😂 - she usually has a great garden lights display !

Fairy lights in the hedge only, thats mostly the norm in my road, and some twinkly cheerful lights inside and in the window, already switched on. its just so nice in these dark evenings to look out and see everything. and all get switched off about 10pm.

I'm not having a tree as such, I have collected some dead branches, sprayed them silver, put lights on, and some little christmassy bits and bobs on. Looks great, cost just a fresh silver spray. Oh, and pine scent if I want just to pretend.

Do what cheers you up on these cold, dark November days. If you are non religious then there is also light for the Solstice, mid winter yule logs, anything that brightens up the darkest time of the year. Our tree is going up next week but I do try to get out walking if there is the slightest hint of dry weather and even better sun. Also, a walk in nature watching the last year die into the ground before the new one starts to wake after the winter solstice.

I don't bother with any decs these days, but when I did the tree went up about a week before Christmas and down 5 or 6 days after. Always the way it was done when we were children.

One of my neighbours put her decs up as soon as she took Halloween stuff down, and that had been up for about a month before too.
Another put his outside lights up (interesting to watch as he admits he hates going up ladders!) a couple weekends ago but he doesn't turn them on until the 1st December.

My mother would only let us put up decorations the weekend before Christmas and I have always stuck to this approximately. They are taken down on 12 night and that is long enough. It is still Christmas until then for us. I hate a bedraggled, needle dropping tree on Christmas Day. Love tge smell of fresh pine, a necessary part of the festive season.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 28-Nov-25 20:45:33

I have youngest GC staying here all weekend, candle bridges alight in all front windows.

Artificial tree up and decorated in dining room. They will help decorate rest of house over the weekend.

Real tree in sitting room not brought in and decorated till 14/12.

I love Christmas, love the lights and candles which brighten up the mud winter gloom.

Non of the above detracts from the Christian aspects of birth of Christ.

Mine are just pop up trees - no actual lights, LOUISA1523, but they sort of twinkle. I bought 4 from Amazon, so they could go in the ‘reception’ rooms. I do put wreaths on my front door, changing them for the seasons.
All sorted in 5 minutes.

Mine going up 1st Dec...GC will come round after school to decorate it

LOUISA1523 Fri 28-Nov-25 19:43:27

Georgesgran

Hate it. Both DDs have theirs up, like Blackpool illuminations.
Mine will go up Dec 22nd and down on Dec 27th - really for the DGS’s benefit only.

Couldn't be bothered for 5 days ...might as well not bother

The Trafalgar Square Christmas tree is loaded on to a lorry in Norway before its journey to London.
