Yesterday was a wet windy grey day and I was thinking how lovely it would be to put the tree up but as a family we have always waited for the first weekend in December , until this year both my daughters have just sent me photos of their Christmas trees they put up yesterday [ grin ]

Christmas only last two days this year?

Have you not heard of the twelve days of Christmas?

Family friend has sent us a WhatsApp of her decorated tree today.
I would be so tired of seeing it by Christmas Day.
Ours may go up 2 weeks before and that is too long for me.
When my H was here about 10 days was plenty.

Royal staff decorate the Christmas tree in the Crimson Drawing room at Windsor Castle yesterday!

Gorgeous isn’t it?

I was tempted to pretend it was one of our daughters and me decorating ours!

When you put up your Christmas tree used to depend on how long a real tree lasted.
Nothing is ever as good as that smell of pine trees, but with the artificial versions it is now down to personal preference.

Our tree is being delivered about 10 days before Christmas. It will stay up until 6 Jan, then taken to be composted.

Hate it. Both DDs have theirs up, like Blackpool illuminations.
Mine will go up Dec 22nd and down on Dec 27th - really for the DGS’s benefit only.

We are doing it on Tuesday when GD1 is free to help.

Ours is going up on the weekend. We usually do it the first weekend in Dec but as that’s Monday this year we decided to do it a bit early. We have family friends coming on the following Saturday. too much to do the decorating and a meal for friends so we’ll do it a bit early and it’ll be nice for them to see too

We always put ours up on our wedding anniversary, it was also my dad's birthday, 12th Dec. When we were young we decorated on 10th Dec, my sisters birthday.

Love this. As a child our tree went up on the 18th Dec as it was my father’s birthday. Now it’s mid December for us but it doesn’t come down till 12th Night

Today I have just put my tree up and decorated it. In the past we didn’t even think about Christmas until after DH’s birthday on 10th, and as a child, nothing went up before Christmas Eve.
With the awful weather this weekend I guess many people will put their tree up, if they haven’t already done so.

I have spent the last three days putting up my trees and decoration. I love this time of year.

Calendargirl Sun 01-Dec-24 13:04:33

Have put ours up today.

One in the sitting room, one in the conservatory

The trees are years old, (fake) and some of the decorations are at least 25 years old.

If DH didn’t set them up and arrange the lights, they would remain in the loft.My contribution is putting the baubles on.

They will come down four weeks today, all done and dusted before New Year.

I do like candle bridges in the windows.

My lighted trees are more for people passing by to enjoy.

Now retired, I used to like to see other people’s trees as I drove home. It cheered the journey up.

Our GC and GGC have a fake tree in their playroom, it went up yesterday - covered in so many lights and decks. They love it.

The outdoor trees have lights and the Santa grotto is done as well.

The real trees wouldn't last well, here, if put up yet. Three more weeks.

We were going to put ours up today but did them yesterday smile.

1st December - off the starting blocks with that tree!

Usedtobeblonde Sun 01-Dec-24 11:08:09

I went out to see a friend last evening and was surprised by the number of houses with outside light displays while still in November.
However I probably say this every year.
Mine will go up in 2 weeks ( unless my GD gets her way when next weekend may see them installed)

The earlier the better in my opinion.

I love it.

My daughters and a couple of my grandchildren put my 95 year old mothers Christmas decorations up yesterday, her house looks like a fairy grotto but she loves it , lots of lovely memories came back to her looking at decorations made by great grandchildren , grandchildren and even things my sister and myself had made her when we were little ,especially the ones made by sister who died 6 years ago . She has just posted a photo of her tree on a forum she is on ..not bad for a 95 year old!

Daughter and granddaughter put their's up today. Sent me a pic of DGD decorating it. Far too early for us but each to their own.
