There are some things that irritate me a bit, too (‘this’ isn’t one of them - I use it myself sometimes), but not to the point where I would risk making posters feel self-conscious by saying their communication style is stupid and pointless.
It’s really unpleasant on here just now. I hoped that when people accepted the election result it might settle down, but it hasn’t.
I read it as a more emphatic version of agree, "this" encapsulates all the points I would make, perhaps it should be preceded by "exsctly" for even more emphasis. I'm probably over thinking it though before your post it hadn't occurred to me to question it.
I know before I ask that I am being unreasonable about what I am going to say. I don’t know why, but it makes my blood boil when posters start their reply to a post with ‘this.’ Why on earth do you do it? We all have enough of a brain to know that your answer agrees and/or relates to the post it is answering. It just seems a stupid and pointless thing to do. Why not just say ‘I agree’ if you really think it’s necessary?
guess it's the youngsters' equivalent of ditto. no good getting het up about it. styles and customs, terms, change.
Well, it gets me het up, rightly or wrongly! I don’t normally notice anything annoying in posts,q I just read them and joy them. Poor spelling or grammar may be there but if it is, it goes over my head. But ‘this’ REALLY gets to me!
