So the protesters did nothing wrong! They didn’t call Gideon Falter scum ornazi? If GF was in danger, who was threatening him with danger? Who was likely to attack him? Why was he in danger? I’m not Jewish, would I have been in danger? Why do the majority of Jews stay in their houses every weekend now?

To think that London, or anywhere else for that matter, does not belong to any one demographic
(829 Posts)An openly Jewish man wearing a skull cap was trying to cross the road where a pro Palestine march was taking place. He was stopped by a Met Officer who threatened to arrest the man for breaching the peace because of his openly Jewish appearance. He was merely trying to cross the road. Yes tensions run high amongst these demonstrations, but this person is a citizen going about their daily life. Why should the onus be on him to disappear, surely that onus should be on the demonstrators not to target individuals to take out any grievances. Possibly the Officer was trying to head off any clashes, but I think there is something worryingly wrong and discriminatory in telling a demographic, any demographic, they are not free to move about on the streets of their own country.
Your thoughts on the matter.

A different agenda? Such as calling this man out for deliberately seeking to cause trouble?
A Jew has as much right as anyone else to walk freely in our capital city, to deny this time and time again is antisemitism in all but name…
The marchers were denying that right, not the police.

The police officers says you are obviously Jewish would anyone on here think it acceptable to say to a black man you are obviously black or to a Muslim you are obviously muslim ?
Gideon was making a point on his way back from his synagogue that London is not safe for Jews whilst Palestinian supporters are given carte blanche including not being rebuked or arrested for antisemitism…
This 👏👏👏
So where should Gideon Falter have been after shul? Hiding in his house?

I think that is what GSM and others on here think.
Imagine if this was reversed and Muslims were advised not to go to certain areas of London and elsewhere just because they were Muslim?
There would be riots…
It may have been said before, and I wont have read everything on the subject, but he was stopped from going where he wanted to go?
I realise it would have been for his own safety, but I dont think he should have been stopped if he didnt want to be.

^EXCLUSIVE Revealed: Man threatened with arrest by police for 'breaching the peace' by being 'quite openly Jewish' near Gaza march is *chief executive of leading Jewish group - as he calls for mass demo in response^
So a Jewish man is prevented from walking the streets of our capital city because he looks quite openly Jewish and is threatened with arrest because people who are quite openly protesting on our streets are nearby?
He was breaching the peace? And the protestors are not as they prevent people going about their lawful business?
This is quite unbelievable.
That's a very dangerous path the police are going down.
Had the police officer had a quiet word and said he didn't have the manpower there to protect the Jewish man if the protestors turned violent, it would be wise to go another way, that would be reasonable.
Agree with this.
I most certainly don’t think that, GG, and I am shocked that you should say I do. Here is the Sky video as requested by Wyllow. I think other posters would benefit from watching and considering it too.

I have watched it GSM
I can only go on what you have posted on this thread, nothing else.

I don’t need to imagine. We lived in HK during the riots (Mao)
Because we were white we obeyed the instructions not to go to certain areas and we had curfews from 6pm. We didn’t riot back!
I think that the scary thing about all this is the realisation that our media is not really telling the story in an accurate way.
I started off feeling very indignant on behalf of Mr. Falter. Now we are getting a better understanding of the incident I’m not quite so sympathetic.
I would add to my pp - (‘Officialdom in general would appear to be terrified of upsetting them’)
‘… and they are well aware of this, and take full advantage of it.’
Goodness - this thread is a great example of unconscious bias.
.
If a young woman is walking down the street near a group of men and she's wearing a short skirt or exposing a bit of cleavage, I bet the police wouldn't tell her she was being "openly sexually provocative" and thus inviting some kind of harassment. And even if they did, for sure, they'd be entering a minefield.
Same principle, regardless of the police officer's intentions.
I’ve watched the Sky footage. It hasn’t changed my mind. Jews are not free to walk wherever they wish to in London. There were chants of from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free clearly audible on the footage. Baby killer was shouted at the Jewish group. It’s a disgrace in my humble opinion.
GG, I have said all along that GF was seeking to cause an incident and the Sky video is proof of that. The video posted by GF was deliberately misleading. Carefully edited, as we can see from the Sky film - his friend was filming throughout, but only a small clip was chosen for dissemination to the media. But it seems one cannot criticise his motives without veiled, but obvious, hints of antisemitism. I am not, and never have been, antisemitic but I know a set-up when I see one.
maddy, if he had just stood on the pavement and filmed the march he could have made the same point.
From SKY video
When Mr Falter asked if he would be allowed to cross the road if he removed his kippah, the officer said he would not because he was not confident he would not put it back on.
Definitely anti semitism
It's worth reading the transcript, it's clear it was Mr Falter with the "agenda" and it was he that suggested to the police that they would need to arrest him to stop him walking, not across the road but against the flow of the march! The police offered to take him to a group of Israelis waving Israeli flags and he refused. There's enough occasions when people are anti semitic, Islamaphobic, racist etc without turning this into one of them. Surely the police have enough to do policing these marches without GF and his group adding to it. There were Jews , Jews who wanted to be recognised as Jews, marching just as there has been on every march.
If you’ve watched the video you would have heard the vile insults being hurled towards him by some of the protesters. All by people in close proximity to the police officer. If that had been a Muslim being called scum etc the protestors would have been arrrsted.
I also note the ones on here twisting themselves in knots in their attempts to justify this are mostly those with hard left leanings. Says it all really.

*maddy*, if he had just stood on the pavement and filmed the march he could have made the same point.
I dont think he would have done.
He has found out he was not allowed to walk into the march.
What the law says about this, I do not know.
Whether other people in different circumstances come across the same reaction, I do not know.
The full video does give more context. The policeman speaks at length trying to explain what the policy is:
no one crosses the march
At one point Falter pushes "if you want to arrest me" before the "openly jewish" Yes the words the policeman used were anti semitic and it has rightly been addressed and opened an important dialogue
Just as its now clear that anti semitic chants and posters are hate mongering and need to be addressed too.
Some people are missing the point.
Why was there a group of Jews, including Mr Falter, at the scene of the protest?
Why were they filming it?
They were not there to be provocative, they were there to get proof of the vile, anti-semitic slogans and hatred being spewed by people whose aim is to exterminate the Jewish people, all this being perpetrated and enabled by the police on the streets of the UK.
A protest march against war is one thing and many people are there because they feel strongly about that. Most of us would want the war to end quickly and a settlement reached.
However, some of those marching have a different agenda and it is chilling.
Perhaps, like France, we should think about stopping these marches.
Goodness, anyone who disagrees is either anti semitic or "hard left"! Just for the record, I'm neither but like GSM (who I also think is neither) I can see a "set up", read a transcript and come to my own conclusion about what's really going on.
Too late to stop the marches, control of the streets has been taken from the police

If a tree falls in a forest ........
If no-one is there to film it ......

But can you see what's really going on?
Amongst the well meaning marchers are those with a very nasty agenda.
This is London, this is the UK.
This hatred should not be happening on our streets.
