Seagull and pigeon poo

I'm glad I didn't have washing out first thing because the seagulls were swooping really low this morning. I've been lucky with the washing being out and being close to the sea because so far there haven't been any mishaps.

Our local leisure centre uses spikes to dissuade pigeons. But still lots of birds and muck in places. Anyone know how dffective spikes are?

It's the brickwork too. Some does look new though. I scrubbed some areas myself Sunday, but there is more now. So maybe the spikes aren't working, although I did notice a disgruntled pigeon flapping up to the wall and away again yesterday.

We had seagull poo on a car bonnet that took a layer of paint off! Clearly bird mess can be toxic and will cause staining which cleaning won't remove.
However, is the poo new? Are the spikes not effective? Certainly take them to task and pay when the gutter is clean and stays clean.
