Any words or phrases that you can't stand?

"myself" and "yourself" instead of "me" and "you" it has now become very widespread. if a salesman calls me "yourself" in conversation I don't buy, that is my one woman protest.

Saying somethink instead of something

Or should I say, as a 'perceived' intruder.

Insightful instead of the perfectly good English word 'perceptive'
Bradford, I take your point, but this is an example of two words with different roots meaning the same thing, 'Insightful' is of Anglo-Saxon origin, whereas 'perceptive' is of Latin origin. However, 'insightful' must be one of those words that migrated across the Atlantic and has come back as an intruder!

People who say was when grammatically it should be were, it really annoys me every time

Can't stand when a pregnant lady states that 'I'm about to drop it". A very uncouth phrase I would say.

Oh and the expression 'Robust going forward' what ever that means!!!

'Random' when talking about doing something unplanned!!!!

Autumnal ... Don't know why, it just irritates me! Why not just Autumn? Autumn weather/leaves/etc. We don't say Winteral/Summeral/Springal.

'brackish' (water) to mean dirty. It means a mixture of salt and fresh, so unless you've nipped to the estuary to fill a bucket, the water in it isn't brackish.

'Bear with...' Even 'please bear with me' is bad enough.
'Long time no see' ugh.
'Kudos' used as a single word and 'hats off to you.'

I thought 'curate' simply meant 'taken care of' ? So a curated collection of pottery pigs would make me grunt into my trough.

I've remembered another one - 'it was hysterical', instead of 'hilarious'.

I'm afraid that I regularly use many of the phrases that others loathe. "Going to the toilet" is one of them although I do usually say loo. In many cases if I asked to go to the bathroom I would end up in a bathroom that does not have a toilet when what I want is the toilet.

My most loathed phrase is - my bad.

The unnecessary or incorrect use of amazing, awesome and literally.

Using the word 'watched' instead of looked after, eg 'I watched the DGC until they started school.'
