I probably am being a bit unreasonable but....

I have to admit that when I see a very long OP with little punctuation and no white space, I usually give up trying to read it and don't respond.

Before anyone jumps on me, it's not a criticism of the poster's punctuation nor grammar, I suffer from Sjogren's and sometimes my eyes are very dry and sore and it's difficult to read print at the best of times .It's much easier when the print is broken up with white space, highlighting the OP's responses would enhance it even further.

I do agree that it is annoying when someone comes late to the thread and posts a comment or repeats what has been already said, without reading what has gone before.

YANBU. The most irritating are those that have apologised, agreed they were wrong but people still pile in because they haven’t read the update. If the thread is very long it is pointless reading the OP and then wading in - it is quite likely your point has been made several times over.

This happens in real life too . I told my friend how I was going to deal with a problem and she gave me a pep talk telling me what to do and what to say to resolve it as if I couldn't speak for myself.

The op's posts are a different colour on my tablet, but not on the desktop, no idea why.

This puzzles me. I've seen this mentioned before on here, and I don't understand how one or two people get a different display from everyone else. I can look at GN on an iMac, a Windows laptop, an iPhone and an iPad. Not one of them shows the OP's posts in a different colour - the first post is highlighted green, but no subsequent posts are coloured at all. OP's subsequent posts on Mumsnet show up in a different colour, but I've never seen it on GN.

Is there anyone else here who can see OP's subsequent posts highlighted in a different colour?

The original posters posts don’t come up in another colour on my iPad or iPhone apart from the original post which is green

I admit to having done this on some posts but I have tried not to do it recently. The things is, when a thread is several pages long, it's easy to miss an update by the OP.

I agree about the OP's posts being highlighted to make things easier; I thought that came up a while back when GN Central was re-designing the site? Don't know why they haven't done it?

I agree there are times when I ve answered with nothing showing above but when I post it a couple of posts come in above mine that weren’t there
And if course if it’s a long thread you can’t read it word for word but skim read and do at least read the original posters subsequent posts as things are added that Someone who has not read anything bar the original post will miss
You ll get ‘ ‘I live 200 miles from my son’ and then halfway down the page someone will chirp up ‘does you son live nearby’

I do agree that it is annoying when people clearly haven't read the OP properly or the comments of others.

However, I do have to plead guilty to not keeping up. There are times when, by the time I have composed what I want to say, the topic has moved on and my comments look to be off the point!

It’s not easy to read every single post, admittedly, especially when some do go on a bit. When I first joined GN, I’d get a bit narked when someone else got thanks and praise for repeating the self same point I’d made two pages earlier. It barely registers now, honest!

I agree BlueBelle it's annoying when another Poster clearly hasn't bothered to read the original post properly. I think sometimes people are so keen to put their own views forward they are not interested in the details already given. Much like the people who constantly talk about themselves and don't want to know about you. I understand sometimes it's hard wading through big blocks of text or several pages of comments.
I do appreciate it when a poster comes back and responds to a comment I've made.

I read before I comment - otherwise what’s the point? Someone upthread May already have said what I was going to - in which case I just say xxx I agree.

It would be helpful if we could have all the OP’s posts highlighted as happens on Mumsnet. It’s so easy over there to scroll through and still catch any updates.

RTFT is read the full thread. Or the f can stand for something else if you’re feeling aggrieved.

I think it's RTFT, which means 'Read the full thread' (polite version) or Read the fucking thread' (most often intended version )

Totally agree with you all.I especially think when somebody has poured their heart out about family and personal matters and then people make negative comments without having read the whole of the original post it must be very upsetting.

Have you ever spoken to someone in a queue and they haven't listened to what you've said but they prattle on expecting you to listen to what they've said ?
It really rattles me when it's they who started the conversation. I find myself saying to myself " you ignorant pig ". It's the height of bad manners so I now tend to be stand-offish towards those who I think will pull this stunt.

It's not good enough to bleat plead that it's hard for me to read text which is partly missing and dances about (that's what AMD suffers see) but it is genuinely hard work to read many posts.

Especially those who use very little white space and don't separate their paragraphs.

A thick block of text, in either the OP or comments, with no space between anything is hard for anyone; impossible for me.

I try hard, or should that be 'I'm a tryhard' because I often feel my life experience has given me some insights and experience.

Yes, I do too! I find it very irritating sometimes, when comments are made, and, like you say, it's obvious that the poster has not fully read the thread, or at least had a good skim and read the OPs further comments. Some posters seem to get the complete wrong end of the stick, which isn't particularly helpful. And then you sometimes get comments based on that post, instead of the OP
