I think she has done her share - she now needs to take care of herself. She can continue to get the message out without being on the world stage - social media for instance.
Should we be more open to a wealth tax?
I think she is, she is so passionate , knowledgeable & informed.
If this isn’t shown or taught in all schools yet , let’s hope that it will be
She is certainly an inspiring example for & to us all.
Well done young lady .
I think she has done her share - she now needs to take care of herself. She can continue to get the message out without being on the world stage - social media for instance.
This is getting way out of control.
As I said GT seems sincere and it is an important issue. She may also be in danger of over exposure and she is young.
It is actually possible to have a few different ideas about a person, politics,a cause, an idea.
Oh yeah. That would work.
"All school kids will down tools for five minutes on Thursday after to tweet Save the Planet".
The world would be stopped in its tracks.
Thursday afternoon
Wasn’t going to add anymore to this thread
But just have to say thank you Rebellious for the best comment so far . Spot on ?
Are you even allowed to say “what you really meant” on Gransnet anymore ? Are you not supposed to apologise and thrash yourself with thorny bramble for getting it wrong first time?
Oh gilly - you know you cannot be bold and say it like it is. It's not allowed. We haven't got any bramble, but right now we have a good line in birch twigs (from tree felling) so I could post you some and you could get yourself to the nearest village green and thrash yourself publicly?
I am sure some places could rustle up a ducking stool for you and you could do a bit of river immersion too, to truly atone for your sin?
I quite like your 'grim reaper' description. Doom is us. Remember not so long ago people used to go round with sandwich boards proclaiming "The end of the world is nigh!"? Whatever happened to sandwich boards?
<thinks> Ah, the modern day sandwich board is Twitter. (Where it has to be said, poor vulnerable Greta is not getting an easy ride, despite her important message.) Mind you...the sandwich board people got it wrong too. We were due for extinction decades ago. When exactly is "Nigh"?
Apparently as well as having high functioning autism she has also had anorexia and depression.
I'm amazed that people aren't more concerned for her mental well being. Sometimes people need to be protected from themselves.
you know you cannot be bold and say it like it is
From , what I can see , you can say anything you like on this forum.
Gilly has not written it like it is, she has expressed her opinion, used an unfortunate turn of phrase and apologised.
Just because you agree doesn't make it true.
In the age old maxim, 'dont shoot the messenger if you don't like the message'. Or putting it another way, think about the message and not the messenger.
She's doing a great job in highlighting the biggest issue that we all face: its even bigger than Brexit!
"Oh yeah. That would work. hmm
"All school kids will down tools for five minutes on Thursday after to tweet Save the Planet".
The world would be stopped in its tracks."
Gonegirl I think you have deliberately misunderstood me. I was saying that others could continue to get the message out and she could make her contribution by using social media - which just about every young person uses these days.
My concern is for her mental health
Got to add before I go.
How would stopping her saying / speaking out about something she is passionate about be good for her !
plus she has a family who I am sure know her better than a bunch of Gransnutters such as ourselves.
I totally agree. GT really isn't strong or mature enough mentally to be the poster girl for climate change. It's disgusting that no one is saying enough is enough.
Not only that, youngsters everywhere are getting freaked out that doom is on the horizon. Young minds without much life experience are becoming hysterical. I have lost count of the number of distressed and crying children/young adults I have seen on TV. How depressing. At a young age you need to know what steps to take to do your bit to preserve the planet - at an individual level that is all anyone can do.
And then you get on with life and all the good things it has to offer, despite Brexit and despite climate change. Being aware is good, but life is to be lived and enjoyed, if at all possible.
My post above to Loislovesstewie
Well Day6 I may just take you up on the supply of birch twigs . We have a sort of village green where perhaps I could stand naked and invite passers by to take a twig and thrash me . I will of course post a notice on the gates to tell of my crime (what was it again???) oh never mind it matters not .
I like the ducking stool idea too and have the perfect pond in mind . Perhaps I will invite some selected Gransnetters along to watch . If I die of drowning my sins are forgiven , if I live .... well who knows ? Maybe the grim reaper will get me anyway.
We'll stick you in the pond in a life-jacket gilly. Perhaps you could clean it out once ducked and do your bit to save the pond/planet. We'll post photos to Greta. All will be forgiven.
I watched her speech the other day and, whilst the message is important, she comes across as mentally unwell.
I think that the message is already out there and her tirade was unnecessary. She is becoming more the focus, rather than her message, as she is indeed “strange” (for want of a better word).
I agree with a previous poster that now is the time for her family to take her out of the limelight, before she implodes and loses her sanity!
The future of the planet, whatever that is, will happen with or without her input. I hope my grandchildren are allowed to “live” rather than aspire to be like this young lady and I really hope that her speech is not broadcast in schools as I think her sanity may not survive if more pressure is put on her young shoulders!
gonegirl
I understood that the term Autistic is being used to include Aspergers, so why can't you have both?
Ever since i found out how that name came about I have hated it.
Protected form themselves sounds dodgy.
who would do the protecting and what would it mean?
For a child, the parent should be the protector.
Much the same as any other child star.
Oh I'm off of this this thread. If it's not niggling about little things (I'm right, you're wrong) it's downright silliness about this young woman.
Adults are so ridiculously childish ..... no wonder a younger generation are prematurely mature?
The best way to protect Greta Thunsberg is to support her cause
"Listen to the scientists!"
?
I certainly don't want her hysteria/neuroticism rubbing off on my GGC ! Heaven forbid. This girl is unwell and will burnout before long.
