Well, if you do use a loo brush, please don't do what OH once did and leave it to soak, sticking up in the lavatory pan. I rushed in, sat down quick and the rest I can leave to your imagination

When my washing up brush is knackered I buy a new one and use old one round the toilets then throw it away otherwise bleach in between time

I've been using the Toilet Duck brush for ages. Instead of their expensive little pads I often put a wedge of paper in it instead.

I always thought toilet brushes were used for cleaning purposes only - as in scrubbing around the bowl and under the rim. That's all ours is used for anyway.

I wouldn't have one if it were used for the purposes described in this thread.

callgirl1 - no idea if this was the same woman. The Lady in question went on a date and back to the guy's home and asked to use the loo - then the floater predicament ensued and got out of hand. Third hand tale probably true as she was a little tipsy.

My OH who is OTT cleaning says unclean fridges and microwaves harbour more germs than many loos. I've cleaned plenty of nasty things in my time and never yet been ill as a result; you just need to be careful and wash your hands.

dogsmother that would help but beware toilet plumbing and hot water do not always go well together. On holiday in Corfu we had an apartment where the toilet was plumbed in wrongly and flushed hot water - the result was a wrecked loo.

Having read about them on GN, I bought a Loogun a while ago. It works perfectly on skid marks. The video in the advert shows it being used on Vegemite inside a fish tank ! Even my GCs use it when required, that is when they have tired of using it as a water pistol!
Before that I used the toilet paper method, never had a brush as I think they are disgusting!

I do the same as Cindersdad. As for scooping up a floater and wrapping it in loo paper - yuck!

I squirt thick bleach on any lingering skid marks, and also aim it under the rim. I squirt bleach into the bottom if that’s where the stains are. They disappear at the next flush.

I've had arguments with OH about toilet brushes - I hate them, he thinks they're great.And he likes that horrible blue stuff you pour in, supposed to clear it.
If there are any 'smears ' left after I've been there I get my hand in with a bit of toilet paper and rub it off while it's fresh. Then scrub my hand thoroughly.

Well, I never. I didn't even know that people used loo brushes for - well, for this sort of thing! I only use mine when I'm cleaning the bathroom, for scrubbing round the bowl after I've had bleach in it for ten minutes or so. Then I flush the loo and rinse the brush under it. Then it's hidden away in the airing cupboard till the next time. And that's where it's staying now that I know what a visitor might do with it!

I scoop up the floater then wrap it in a toilet roll parcel and flush it away.

Oh dear what a mix of opinion. We keep bleach in the brush holder pot, change the bleach regularly and replace the brush when it begins to look scruffy. Also flush the loo while using the brush, use it round the rim etc.

As for scooping any floaters - surely you are joking - just use the brush to push it round into the bend while flushing. Wiping the seat with loo paper is good, using cleaner etc. BUT NEVER FLUSH WIPES DOWN THE LOO AS THESE DO NOT DISINTEGRATE IN SEWAGE AND THAT CAUSES ALL SORTS OF PROBLEMS FURTHER DOWN THE LINE.

One of my sister-in-law's friends scooped a floater then got stuck trying to throw it out of the window and had to be rescued!!!

And of course whatever you do wash your hands thoroughly.

To my eternal shame himself is a long floater fellow.

We got a new cistern downstairs about 5 years ago. Himself beingn one of these architectural wonders ,.
did not spec a ' loo with a good flush'

Result floaters so he has to go upstairs or else have good bucket of water to do the deed
