First if all don't tell him unless he has something against vintage (second hand etc) unfortunately my husband so I could never do that but we'll find you for spotting such a bargain .Hope he wears it in good health

Coming from a family of second hand Rose's, I have never seen any problem with wearing second-hand clothes or giving someone something second hand, if it is something they want or will enjoy. Just before Christmas I bought a beautiful Jacques Vert coat online.

Most of the contents of our house was inherited or bought at auction and at one time DD used to boast that nothing in her living room had been bought new.

It is a question of personal taste, but buying everything new is a good way of getting poor quickly.

If you gave your daughter a beautiful antique diamond ring that had been worn by a dozen people in its life, would she turn that down too? Ask her.

I am sure your daughter means well, but it is not her money to spend and as has been said, it is a lovely gift with a lot of thought behind it. I love second hand clothes and my kids would have gone naked without them! I also have a lot of things second hand - funnily enough, quite a bit has come from my daughter, who loves fashion and has been known to buy stuff, wear it twice and pass it on to old mum.

I think he will love both the jacket and the thought you have put in to getting it for him. ( Probably be handy to remember that your daughter would prefer brand new stuff as a pressy!)

It's only like buying proper vintage clothes - they're technically second or third-hand but who cares - it's the quality and design you're paying for. He'll love it!

When she said it, I actually felt a jolt. I never thought of it as a second hand jacket, just a bargain!

My thoughts are that he will love it. Firstly because you have bought something that will make him happy, and secondly, that it is a jacket he really wants. Surely your daughter wouldn't be a spoilsport, and hurt both him and your delight in getting a bargain.
