to expect it to last more than a fortnight

Is she doing lots of short journeys? Does it need a new battery? Or do you know someone with jump leads to get it going and then you could try giving it a longer run.

Try simple things first, then if that doesn't work you may need to investigate further.

The question, does the car engine turn over freely, but still does not start? Or does the battery not turn the engine over? Like said above, many short journeys using radio, lights, fan heater/cooler will take more out than is being put in.

Is it petrol or diesel? One of the most common problems with diesel cars is blocked filters or air in the fuel system.

Poor you Nina, it's the frustration that gets to you, isn't it, and the extra stress involved in sorting it out!
