have you got rid of your landline (phone)

I did much the same bikergran after my partner left me. I, with the help of my son, went through everything and cut down to what it was I actually used or needed rather than what I had. I did keep my landline / broadband package and basic pay as you go mobile but I rarely use the landline - or the mobile if the truth be known. I do receive the occasional email I even had one from my ex a couple of days ago on my 65th birthday, not to wish me a happy birthday but informing me that she is taking me to court to secure her share of the house and our property overseas, the letter from her lawyers arrived on the same day. Well organised it seems.
I must admit that wittling everything down to a minimum has certainly saved me a lot in monthly outgoings and the landline although infrequently used is a comfort. Phoning mobiles is just too expensive as is using a mobile to phone. There are a lot of good broadband / landline deals available so I hope you manage to secure better deals for yourself.

thankyou ps we very rarely use the landline (apart from the broadband) but even that is only used for a bit of searching and the odd email (and GN of course ) and I could prob mange with the net via the mobile..

I'm with EE/Orange and pay £28 per month for landline, unlimited free calls, including to US, Australia, Europe, etc, and internet.

hi Riverwalk yes it has crept up over the yrs...it's a bit like sticking with same insurance etc instead of looking round for better deal (which I am doing at the mo) we do have the anytime package as daughter used to come and use phone etc) so time for a re think. I have just looked at EE/Orange but seem to think it's for existing customers..but I shall have another look. thanks

Goodness that's a lot of money. I'm with BT infinity for everything and my bill is one third of yours.

I'm with BT Infinity and have broadband, TV, IT help, phone, overseas calls and and it's probably about £90 a quarter. I wouldn't be without my landline as mobile reception in my house is rubbish. I'm with O2 for my mobile phone.

I am with Plusnet and pay my broadband and land line calls monthly, the average is £9 a month. I have free calls for an hour but only in GB, not to Canada, Eire etc. I pay annually for my telephone line, again Plusnet and my mobile is PAYG, for emergencies. It suits me.

Aka wow you seem to have a good deal....I am just weighing up pros n cons..just want basic package if I do swap to another broadband provider, and will pay for calls as I use them like in the good old day lol.

I would love to get rid of my landline as nearly all the calls I get are unwanted cold calls
But I have a phone, tv, broadband package and have been told that it will cost me more every month if I have the phone disconnected??
My mobile contract with calls, texts and data included costs me far less every month than the landline rental...it is all soooo frustrating

Pittcity yes it is grrrrrrrrrr .. I am lucky to be out of contract with BT broadband so at least not too bad! I don't have tv packages etc..and could prob manage with update mobile, as yet need to look into a bit deeper as If I disconnect completely from BT I believe it could cost me around a £100 to be re connected and as we have our house up for sale at the mo then not quite sure as to. I shall ponder over the next few days,

I think that if you only have a mobile it does sometimes put people off ringing you if they wish to do it on a landline as mobile calls are usually more from a landline. Do you have TV - because maybe a whole package deal would be good for you - Sky and BT do them and I think Talk talk do too. We had Talk talk for phone/broadband etc and all calls were free including abroad and also many of the 0845 numbers. There are complaints about them but we never had a problem. Here in France we have the whole package with Orange and get TV broadband and all phone calls for about£30 a month. We both have PAYG mobiles and have kept our Tesco ones as very cheap. We have had a couple of failed attempts to have French mobiles but both have ended in disaster - but will probably try again.

I rarely use my mobile except when I'm on the move.
Bez yes it does irritate me and put me off ringing if people only have a mobile.It is much more expensive on my tariff.I have a Virgin package for TV,broadband/landline phone.my mobile is PAYG.

My mobile is strictly for emergencies. I have a deal with Orange/France Telecom - for about £35 a month I get broadband and free calls to most of the world. As I spend a couple of hours a week talking to my daughter in New Zealand, plus my sister and grand-daughter in England, I reckon it is a good deal.

I still have a landline, mainly because mobile reception can be a bit hit and miss.

Our bills with BT were getting higher and higher. Switched to PlusNet (who we were already using for broadband), now paying between £15 and £20 a month!

Yes, I know PlusNet is owned by BT, but it's much cheaper and we are very happy with them.

You might find that the minute you threaten to leave your current provider, they will offer all sorts of deals to get you to stay!

We live in the shadow of a hill and mobile reception is very poor so we still need our landline. DD keeps hers because she says that the best way to stop being inundated by calls from PPI callers etc that you have to pay for is to give your landline number to companies you buy things from and other people you do not know who need a contact number and only give your mobile number to friends and family.

I got rid of my landline a few years ago as i was paying so much in line rental and hardly making any calls. Im now totally mobile only ( phone and I pad on a low monthly contract) The only problem occurs occasionally when i need wifi for something eg updating something on the ipad or downloading a new kindle book. Easily fixed though, i just go to the library with my gadget in my handbag and use the free wifi.
There hasnt yet been one instance where ive said " I wish I still had a land line"

...and ive just got one of those super iphones free on my contract upgrade so im very excited. Im easily pleased.
Thinking back though, it was quite fun coming home and seeing if you had a message on your answer phone!

The calling mobiles from landlines being expensive is true. But if you get rid of your landline and get a mobile contract for the same amount that you were paying in line rental each month then calls to mobiles are included in the package!!
An there are websites and mobie apps that can help you find alternatives to the 08... numbers that are not included!!

We live in a largish village but the signal is appalling added to which we have granite walls so you can imagine how much fun it is trying to send and receive texts etc. We have no choice but to have landline and have a everything on BT Infinity.

I never use my mobile for making calls except for emergencies, it's pay as you go with Orange, use it for texting a lot.

ok well! I have changed over to PlusNet (although I did have a few questions to ask first) one of them being....on the tv etc they advertise £2.99 for 9 months broadband!!! aha well! we all know that the contracts are normaly 12 or 18 month..so the questions I asked is."how much is it after! 9 mnths? £5.99! and normally it is 18 month contract! anyway I managed a 12 mnth contract.. for ermm think it was £22-99 or to the nearest pence....that includes line rental/broadband and anytime calls. so providing I don't ring any mobiles etc then that cuts my BT bill down by about just over £52 a quarter.so watch this space..

biker well done you what a saving !!we got a good deal with BT last time our contract came up for renewal and included BT vision & sports for "his nibs" free for 12mths when on offer,I use the landline attached to the hub as it is free worldwide but I have to keep the original landline going as the support system is run through it in case of emergencies with mr g's health,and my bills are about £34 a month for everything,I refuse to call mobiles as they are so expensive.
