The family and legal representatives of the unarmed 17 year old black 17 year old killed by a white supremacist have appealed for calm and echoed the worlds of The Reverent Martin Luther King, Our time for equal justice will come. His and his families words.
WHEN. ( my words). The Metropolitan Police show exactly the same racist approach. WHY.
Please dont tell me juries hear all the evidence and decide on the facts. Out of 25 years a an officer of the court and having worked in prisons I guarantee white juries and the police condemn black people because they are black. WHY. When we have scapegoated every race, class ,creed that is different to our own who do we blame for the problems we face, OURSELVES, heaven forfend, surely we have have got it 100% right, or, hmmm, have we?

As the author of this post may I politely point out, the first responder described me as a racist because there was no evidence the man who admitted killing a black 17 year old because he was wearing a hoody, in the rain and thereby by the rules of racist stereotyping was automatically guilty and deserving of an instant death penalty Zero apology with zero admittance of getting it horribly wrong. I was advised i was quite wrong that there was no such thing as slave state law then the president of the USA called for calm because the Florida State law allowed a murderer/ manslaughter go free. Time and time again it becomes apparent a newcomer to this forum has to abide by the unwritten, quite cosy rules or be attacked for upsetting the applecart. grandura, grandnan I thank you for attempting to bring some form of sanity to what I, and I believe you both see as a dreadful situation, but why in the name of whatever deity people play lip service to should we have to answer the grunts of people who refuse to put their beliefs to the forum. To sign off not finally as I,m quite sure many of the cosy folk would like a final response to whenim64, your complacent, self satisfied, its 5 oclock so thats it approach to a caring profession really does make me regret fighting, however patronizing you will almost certainly respond to makes me regret the effort l and other mere males put in to ensure women po,s should be fully represented and had it thrown back in my face far too often to forgive.
Angry , Passionate, oxford dictionary. got it right. for once.+

'shouldn''t. sorry for typo

It sahouldn't make any difference at all, whether he is black, white or sky-blue-pink. And I don't think it has. He was cleared according to the US laws.

My father spent some time in the US during the war. By today's standards he was pretty racist himself, but he was horrified by the chain gangs of black prisoners he saw there. He couldn't believe that people could be treated like that. My mother was in the ATS and was warned not to speak to any of the black GI's Naturally she and her friends ignored the warning and got the backing of their CO to do so. One wonders sometimes whether anything has changed in America at all.

granjura Mon 15-Jul-13 22:01:08

Oh dear...

it would make no difference, as he even wouldn't know it! It is who one aspires to be, aligns oneself with...
OH has black and indonesian blood in him 2 generations back - but he is white and considers himself English through and through. You could dig up photos and genetic tests, it would made no difference at all!

j08 Mon 15-Jul-13 20:57:40

could still be black

granjura Mon 15-Jul-13 20:27:34

jo8 Zimmerman is half hispanic. The 'pecking' order of racism is very well documented. Many of the National Front supporters in South of France are second or third generation Spanish or Italians, who have got further up the ladder.

granjura Mon 15-Jul-13 20:13:40

Greatnan, you are so right. And it was pouring with rain- so it made sense to cover his head. You can't go killing kids because they are wearing a hoodie!

j08 Mon 15-Jul-13 19:53:44

Back to the original post, I think the Metropolitan Police have been forced to clean up their act haven't they? I don't think they would dare be racist again.

Thanks, riverwalk. I did wonder, after I'd posted, whether I was assuming too much.

Part of the tragedy, always, in these incidents, is the ease of access to killing weapons. Crazy world.

But the bottom line in this case seems to be that the jury apparently could not have come to any other verdict on the evidence they had.

Sort of subject change but same principle: Eddie Shah - found innocent but how much mud will unfairly stick to him too. He too was judged, and found guilty at the connection of his name with the word rape. The fact that he is innocent - who waited to find that out, who will now judge him innocent?

Riverwalk Mon 15-Jul-13 18:52:24

Bags it was February.

I don't think young people dress according to the weather, but according to what is in fashion. My own girls used to stand at the bus-stop shivering in their school cardigans when I had bought them warm coats. And the girls who are out in towns at the weekends are dressed as if they are in Ibiza instead of Newcastle or Manchester.

whenim64 Mon 15-Jul-13 18:08:48

Your forensic antennae are on high alert, bags. Interesting point!

Bags Mon 15-Jul-13 17:54:14

Another thought that occurred to me is that you don't need to wear a hoodie in Florida in summer.

Or do you?

I just wondered if it was the hoodie that troubled Zimmerman.

It is a sad and terrible case.

Bags Mon 15-Jul-13 17:52:02

That thought had crossed my mind too.

j08 Mon 15-Jul-13 17:47:14

Zimmerman isn't white himself.

You could almost say that the reaction to the case is racist.

noodles Mon 15-Jul-13 17:42:05

Zimmerman's lawyer is apparently getting ready to bring a case against NBC for their 'mis-editing' of Zimmerman's call.

whenim64 Mon 15-Jul-13 17:30:27

If only...........the neighbourhood watch didn't carry a gun in that community.

Bags Mon 15-Jul-13 17:22:01

Insults or otherwise between GNers are not the point of this thread. I suggest you drop it, jura, for the sake of discussing the subject.

Bags Mon 15-Jul-13 17:20:39

I thought it was a boring diatribe too.

granjura Mon 15-Jul-13 17:13:39

Noodles, this : Your diatribes are the sort of psuedo-socialist ravings that bore me to tears,

seems to me pretty insulting. What is even more insulting is that someone cares about a young man being shot for no other reason than being black in the wrong neighborhood- somebody is concerned and it:

bores you to tears. That is very insulting to the young man and his family, in my book.

Nonu Mon 15-Jul-13 16:35:18

RIVER , we are over in the States alot when some of these caes come up and like you are always rather surprised how openly things are discussed before anything comes to trial !

Hmmm

whenim64 Mon 15-Jul-13 16:29:25

That's interesting, Bags. I looked for more information, after reading that article. I hadn't read about NBC being responsibe for manipulating the 911 call, by splicing two separate parts gether and missing out the context of Zimmerman's words, till just now.

Zimmerman is suing on the basis that '.....the 911 call was edited. On one of the NBC News broadcasts, on “Today” on March 27, Zimmerman is heard on the call telling the dispatcher, of Martin, “This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.” ..........'

But Zimmerman did not say the two sentences in sequence. His comment, “He looks black,” was made after the dispatcher asked him if Martin was “white, black or Hispanic?” This was missed out on that broadcast.

Whether he'll win his suit now he's been acquitted is yet to be determined, but the effect on the supporters of Trayvon Martin might not have been as damaging. How irresponsible of NBC to broadcast that tampered-with tape.
