According to the club rules as long as the event is advertised in the bulletin the £5 is claimable.

But what about the theatre tonight?.

Frank

Frank - I am not surprised if nobody turns up for a 5am run. I would not be there for one at 5pm either! That is definitely an easy fiver earned.

I can't think of much that I'd rather do than go for a run at 5am on a Saturday morning.

I have organised a theatre trip detailed above and a 5am run on Saturday morning.

Methinks you need to ask what (and if) the others want to go to, before you 'organise' it.

baubles Thu 27-Jun-13 16:17:18

Frank what kind of events do the other members organise and are those events better attended?

Greatnan Thu 27-Jun-13 16:15:35

grin Frank, your posts make my day!

Yes I do report it to the Inland Revenue.

Frank

vegasmags Thu 27-Jun-13 16:07:18

I am sure, Frank that you will be reporting this source of income to the Inland Revenue, especially as you have posted details of your remuneration on a public forum.

I don't know why this has made me giggle

tanith Thu 27-Jun-13 15:18:57

This has got to be a joke surely? confused

JessM Thu 27-Jun-13 15:11:05

The thing that mystifies me frank is why you kept organising the same kind of thing if nobody turned up. Apart from the £5 of course hmm

HUNTERF Thu 27-Jun-13 14:38:51

Elegran

You are correct.
The events are there even though no other member turns up.
I have done the organising.

Frank

HUNTERF Thu 27-Jun-13 14:36:40

I organise things like theatre trips or trips to places like St Albans.
I go by myself if nobody says they want to go.
The event does go ahead even though there is only 1 member going.

Frank

On second thoughts you have the right idea. The events were there, if no-one turned up it was their own business.

janthea Thu 27-Jun-13 14:32:18

Surely for something to be classed as an 'event' people actually have to attend it? After all the point of an event is to raise money. So if the event does not raise money, why should you be paid for it?

Elegran Thu 27-Jun-13 14:31:59

What kind of thing do you organise, Frank? Steak and chips for vegetarians? Tightrope walking lessons for paraplegics? Flower shows for hay fever sufferers?

I think you need a few new ideas from gransnetters.

mollie Thu 27-Jun-13 14:30:20

Really? 49 events and not one person turned up?

j08 Thu 27-Jun-13 14:29:29

shock!!! That was a canny thing you were up to there Frank! What did the "organising" consist of? Putting up a notice on the noticeboard?

I think you were on the fiddle being naughty. shock

HUNTERF Thu 27-Jun-13 14:25:19

I am a member of a social club and the members get £5 for every event they organise.
I have been a member for 15 months and I have organised 49 events.
The membership fee is £40 a year so I have paid £50 for membership and have claimed £195.
The problem is nobody has ever turned up at an event I have organised.
The club has given me notice that they will only pay me the £5 organisers reward 4 times a year but there is no limit for anybody else or they will refund £ 20 for my membership up to 31 December 2013 and terminate my membership.
Can they put a special rule in for 1 member?. I have broken no rules.
The club can not say the events have not been organised.
