is it necessary to use 4 letter words on this forum?

I find it quite sad if that is the case. It looks so harsh in print.

We all swear more I think nowadays but still do not like it, expect I am old fashioned.

From the Urban Dictionary:
" va te faire foutre
Literally, 'Go do / make yourself.' One of the most vulgar forms of dismissal in the French language. To execute the gesture, make a fist with the right hand, and extend the arm out straight, parallel to the ground, fingers up. With the left hand open, slap the right bicep just above the elbow while raising the right forearm upwards to 90 degrees. Known as the 'Bras d'honneur.
Roughly equivalent to fuck off, go fuck yourself, up yours, etc.
While stopped at a red light, the person behind you honks their horn for you to move. You give them the Bras d'honneur, and shout through the open window, 'Va te faire foutre, putain d'espèce d'enculé!'
Obviously the French are less polite than us.
You can get the T-shirt too.

soop Mon 28-Jan-13 15:01:38

...sounds like the term for a collapsed souffle..
And...as I said before I got sucked into this thread...back to the ironing board.

celebgran Mon 28-Jan-13 15:00:49

well Bags it depends what you mean by respect as said before we all have different standards and what offends one does not others.

I never tolerated bad language from either of my children, but we are all different.

There is nothing condescending about Respect.

Elegran Mon 28-Jan-13 14:55:23

Try foutre.
Google it.

j07 Mon 28-Jan-13 14:51:15

Butty Mon 28-Jan-13 14:42:37

The French word you're looking for J is baiser (pronounced bazay)

Bags Mon 28-Jan-13 14:13:52

I don't know what Latin speakers said, but I think 'copulate' is the one you're looking for, jings. Perhaps you could use cop instead of fuck.

j07 Mon 28-Jan-13 13:46:23

Would NEVER use those words you mention in last bit of that post. And I firmly believe grandsons never will.

j07 Mon 28-Jan-13 13:45:20

What is the Latin for fuck? And the French? please. smile

Granny23 Mon 28-Jan-13 13:42:49

Wow! We are being treated to a masterclass in swearing - a subject that I have not really thought about before. My vague understanding was that words such as f**k, c**t, a**e, S**t were Anglo-Saxon words, considered RUDE or vulgar in the same sense that the peasantry had rude clothes and dwellings ie 'rough and ready' and gentrified folk chose to use the Latin/French equivalents to show they were well bred. Other words such as Damn were curses so a real outburst of 'sweary words' is referred to as 'Cursing and Swearing' to include both. As children we were in severe trouble with teachers or parents for using any word deemed RUDE- which included bum, fart, rift, boobs, tits etc. However, I was grown up before there was condemnation for nigger, spaz, cripple, pouf etc. - all bandied about freely when I was young. Fascinating how WORDS - just a string of letters - can be offensive one minute and acceptable in polite society the next.

Nonu Mon 28-Jan-13 13:08:43

Trouble is , Mummy and daddy usually DO get to hear of things .

wink

Ana Mon 28-Jan-13 12:57:38

grin

j07 Mon 28-Jan-13 12:55:02

He just knows quite well that it's something granny does/says sometimes, and that it is very naughty. And that mummy and daddy mustn't get to know about it. Under any circumstances.

j07 Mon 28-Jan-13 12:53:14

He hasn't been "over-exposed"! Not even at school. Definitely.

agapanthus Mon 28-Jan-13 12:45:13

JO7.....your grandson didn't bat an eyelid because, as I said before, young people have been so overexposed to the use of the word nowadays that it is just another word.the problem is that on gransnet there are still some people who find it upsetting,no matter what the context. But I will say no more.

j07 Mon 28-Jan-13 12:05:30

grin right-o.

harrigran Mon 28-Jan-13 12:04:33

We don't need to swear, all we need do is poke jingl and she will do it for us grin
