Faye just read this and think your post is excellent just as it is without anyone interpreting it.

I have changed a lot over the years but am still not sure I am 'grown up'.

I am far more impulsive than I used to be
I don't plan ahead as much as I used to
I don't care as much about what other people think
I wear what I want to rather than what might be seen as 'appropriate'
I stand up for myself and others in situations where I might previously have run away and hidden
I don't suffer fools in the way I used to
I occassionally now put myself first

I could probably go on and on.................

I am also fitter than I was when I was younger (apart from my sudden bad back which will hopefully go away soon)

Faye I am sorry if I have misrepresented what you said. I was trying to contrast your point of view with Bags' as they seemed to me to be at opposite ends of the spectrum. You did suggest that you feel a different age – I think you said 17, the one at which you "came into yourself" – from your age in years and you contrasted your feelings with those of a crabby old women. I have checked and this does seem to be what you said but perhaps you actually meant something slightly different. In which case, as I have said, I am sorry for misrepresenting your view.

Well, at least I assume you meant me when you talked people twisting your words, not because I have deliberately done so but because I endeavoured to point out this contrast.

Yes absent I meant you. I thought it was very obvious what I was saying. I pointed out what I meant by my posts, yet you still chose to twist what I wrote. It is quite frustrating when someone puts my name to something I have not said.

I have just returned to Gransnet today after a long absence and this is the first thread that I have read - a timely reminder of why I became disillusioned with rambling, moaning, negative, argumentative and pernickety comments!

I have always just been me, I have grown up with myself and we have always been best friends and exactly the same age

Faye I do appreciate how frustrating and irritating it is when someone misrepresents what you have said – especially if you have repeated and augmented it more than once. A poster on another forum did that to me once suggesting that I had made a completely ridiculous and puerile suggestion about Christians and pain and continued to repeat it and repeat it in spite of all my attempts to clarify my comments with increasingly simple words and sentences. It makes you feel like banging your head against a brick wall. Consequently, I repeat my apology and reiterate that any misrepresentation was never wilful.

Yes it is tickety boo as you say absent but I am still left wondering why you were comparing me to baggy. We're you trying to point out that I am immature, want to act younger than my age and hadn't progressed mentally in the last forty three years.

Faye I was not comparing you to Bags but comparing what I understood (apparently wrongly) to be your viewpoint of yourself as an old woman with hers of herself because they seemed to represent opposite ends of a spectrum. I was interested in exploring attitudes to being old, especially as society is so unforgiving of women d'un certain âge. Now you are doing some misrepresenting yourself as I never once suggested that you were immature etc.

People inevitably change as they get older, some for the better, others sadly do become crabby and old before their time. There are those who grow older gracefully, those who grow older disgracefully, those who grow older bitterly and those who just give in.

Where is the quick Bags and does everyone have one? Actually, you, or rather your viewpoint, were not strictly speaking the appropriate choice for comparison as I was using 60* as my starting point for old and you're not there yet.

My definition of "the quick" (until someone comes up with a better one) is That Part of One that Gets Upset. It's that because one never hears of someone being delighted or pleased to the quick, does one?

What logic Bags? Btw I have just looked up cut to the quick in Brewer which says, "the reference here is to the sensitive flesh below the nails or skin, hence the seat of feeling". I like your definition better. I suppose the opposite wouldn't be delighted to the quick but to the nails or epidermis. Doesn't work, does it?

I find your arguments rational, absent, even when I don't agree with them. Rational is probably better than logical, really.
