Nanachrissy I think we have cast Prince Charming (the principal boy who wears the thigh high boots. However you can be in the chorus, dancing Mamie's cancan moves in tight bodice, frilly skirt and (whisper it) no knickers if you so choose. Please check out the choreography and practise faithfully in front of full-length mirror. (I just made -and corrected- a fab freudian slip by typing knockers instead of knickers !!!!)

Oxon70 Sun 25-Dec-11 20:03:12

Ok, Pudsey is out. (sigh).....How about I find a cat costume, and be Cinders' cat in the kitchen?

Cast list? How many characters should there be, anyway - when I google it I can't get away from Disney, which isn't my idea of the story.

nanachrissy Sun 25-Dec-11 16:47:06

I don't mind what part I have, as long as I can be a size 10 in thigh high boots with no knickers! (Always been my fantasy!) .....(evil) grin

Mamie Sun 25-Dec-11 10:07:23

No Oxon70, if you are going to be in the chorus line you can't wear a Pudsey Bear costume (sighs - there's always one..)
Just had a very good workout on my Christmas Wii. I am sure flying a plane round an island will help my cartwheels...

Oxon70 Sun 25-Dec-11 08:01:25

Maybe I won't be the pumpkin/coach behind you either....

Have we got a cast list yet?

yogagran Sat 24-Dec-11 23:26:04

I'm not volunteering for the back end granny23. After all those sprouts it could be very nasty. . . .

Granny23 Sat 24-Dec-11 23:14:36

Can I be the front end of the pantomime horse? Please? There has to be a horse somewhere in Cinderella. Perhaps pulling the coach, perhaps the prince's horse? I have my own coconut shells (from a Monty Python Event) for the clip clopping, sturdy legs in brown tights and a donkey brown chenille table cover. I would need someone I could TRUST for the back end. So can I? PLease! Do I hear Yea or Neigh?

Oxon70 Sat 24-Dec-11 20:30:50

Can I wear my Pudsey Bear outfit, and dance anyway?

Oxon70 Sat 24-Dec-11 17:17:36

Bit doubtful about this frilly skirt idea...is it really me?

Gally Sat 24-Dec-11 16:38:29

Oh well, I'll be coming in from the left then! grin

nanapug Sat 24-Dec-11 15:18:57

Don't forget the goodies always enter from the right and the baddies from the left (something I only learnt today and am very proud to know it, so decided to share it!!).

Elegran Sat 24-Dec-11 15:18:27

That is me now labelled for life! Why don't I keep quiet?

Mamie Sat 24-Dec-11 14:53:54

Umm black tops, red frilly skirts with white petticoats, garters and feathers in our hair. I leave it to you if you want to do it a la Elegran or not....

Oxon70 Sat 24-Dec-11 14:51:04

Well, I managed not to miss the bed. Maybe it'll be alright on the day...

What are we going to wear for our big day??

(I know this is about 30 years earlier, but I can't imagine going to the loo in a crinoline - even without knickers!)

Elegran Sat 24-Dec-11 14:22:49

I imagine they wear frilly ones these days. When the cancan was a new dance sensation it was quite usual for women not to wear knickers under their long dresses - why bother? they had to be held up by tapes (and had a pair of separate legs) before elastic was common, and a visit to the loo was a major exercise.

Also the audience expected to see a saucy dance and would have been disappointed to see prim white cotton instead, though I suspect the dancers were expert at flouncing lots of petticoats about but showing nothing risque until the final bit where they turn their backs and bend over and flip up all the layers - to resounding cheers.

Carol Sat 24-Dec-11 14:13:02

....untomiss?? what does that mean? untowards or amiss - take your pick.....

Carol Sat 24-Dec-11 14:11:16

I went to the Folie Bergere in Paris, but don't remember seeing anything untomiss when they were doing the cancan - that's opened my eyes!

Elegran Sat 24-Dec-11 14:04:08

Carol That is why the can can was so popular .....

Mamie Sat 24-Dec-11 14:00:31

Fall back on the bed and put the other one up to join it?
Right dancers, I think we have rehearsed enough for today. Take a break tomorrow and Monday, then we'll do a class on Tuesday morning ready for the big day.
Remember not to eat and drink too much though - we don't want to disappoint our audience.

Oxon70 Sat 24-Dec-11 13:25:17

Still trying, but can't get my foot past my chin yet.............I shall try your suggestion Mamie
The elastic is holding up so far

Lift right foot, extend leg past ear, still holding foot and turn three times on spot
Lift right foot, extend leg past ear,

Yes, but how do I get it down again?

Carol Sat 24-Dec-11 12:53:34

I'll be watching with half-closed eyes through my fingers! This is getting raunchy!

Mamie Sat 24-Dec-11 12:44:11

The can-can will be in the ballroom scene and I think everyone needs to hum along for a bit while the chorus line dances and everyone uses their imagination (especially when it comes to Elegran dancing without her knickers).

Carol Sat 24-Dec-11 12:16:27

I can see you have good organisational skills susieb. I've done an urban rap type poem that might fit with your opening scene so now not sure when to introduce it - should I put it on here or on the new thread? Shall I pm it first?

susiecb Sat 24-Dec-11 12:05:29

Dance rehearsals are looking good - lots of splits and legs sliding up walls I see. Have we got a Prince charming yet and a Cinderella or will they have multiple personae. her's how it will go

On 28th I shall start a new thread just named Cinderella - The Panto and description of the opening scene with my character Chlamydia bawling a Cinderella to do some menial task for her. after that its over to you - let it rip and see how far we get. Dont forget to interject some music and songs - one song to the tune of another is always a good one. So finish off your costumes and do describe the costume so we can all imagine you garb. Feel free to be multiple characters.
Have a great Xmas and boxing day not sure if I shall be hear proably incoherent with gin and chocolate most of the timesmile
