How do you feel about getting older? Whether it's a pet peeve or, equally, something you like, let us know (in no more than two sentences) and you could appear in a brand new novel.
Pan Macmillan publishers want to get a snapshot of real women’s feelings about ageing. A selection of these will be included in the new book The Time of our Lives by Sunday Times Top Ten Bestseller Maeve Haran.
You might remember Maeve as the author of 90’s smash hit Having It All, a novel that sparked huge debate about whether women could work and have a family, and much more besides. As well as being a brilliant read, her new book is about four friends in their early sixties, and the new issues they face, twenty years older than the protagonists of Having it All.
Everyone who posts a comment will be entered into a draw to win one of 20 exclusive early reading copies of The Time of Their Lives, and everyone whose comments are used will be entered into a draw to win a luxury forest cabin break for four people – details HERE.
We also have an exclusive extract from the book which you can read here.
Age brings a sence of freedom. Gone are the stilleto heels. I don't feel the need to conform to expected standards and opinions, anymore .. I am not afraid to go against the grain, and set my own standards, and voice my real opinions. I notice that my first comment was, gone are the stilletos. I think that is important in under standing the freedom of age. Its wearing flat, comfy shoes, and saying this is who I really am .. take me, or leave me.
I'm getting older but I'm getting fitter. I feel brilliant and when my daughters come home from Uni they always say how much younger I am/look than their friends' Mums. That's good enough for me.
we all approach or accept ageing differently. I'm sure there are many people that fear it and just as many that embrace it.
I personally have chosen to embrace it, I don't like the idea of getting older but its all about embracing your age just because you are getting older doesn't mean you have to act your age. Just do and act what makes you feel comfortable, young and love yourself.
Finally, I am only responsible for myself, I may wish to help my offsprings but they have a mind to be ( Silverbacks, or Alpha Dogs ) therefore I am reponsible for and to myself and it is uplifting.
I like the wisdom that comes with age and also how that helps you put your problems into perspective, but I in my mind I think of myself as 18, so sometimes scare myself when I look in the mirror some mornings lol
Almost a lifetime of experiences has given me so much that I want to share with my daughters. It has also taught me that I must not, under any circumstances, force my opinions and thoughts on them - only share them when asked.
Glad I'm not the only one Gally. Woke up feeling particularly grumpy
