Good morning all from the train to Inverness. It's full to bursting with people standing with big luggage and no reservations at all on this train.
An angry and distressed man with wife and 3 small children, from Australia is protesting loudly. I don't blame him.
I managed to get a seat but I feel embarrassed by the poor service .

I am mulling over the house I viewed yesterday in Edinburgh. Closing date tomorrow.

While I was out the Helpers dug out a huge diseased viburnum bush. It's left a huge gap. I am glad they did but what to fill the space.

Lovely work gMattie and well done Iris. 👏👏 I was an RDA volunteer for nearly 20 years and know how high the standard is.

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning everyone from Belfast where it is 15 and a lovely breeze. It's a holiday here and it's very quiet. Not complaining.
DH and DD are away doing painting and plumbing and I'm enjoying the quiet.
Washing out earlier and I would say it's dry.
Have a good day everyone.

Good morning from a cooler Co Armagh, windows open to catch the breeze
I was out earlier watering the plants in pots , I did some last night so I think I’ve managed to rescue them
Cleared the nozzles in the solar fountain so it’s now shooting straight up and not dribbling over the edges of the old cow feeder
Nothing happening much here , hope for a peaceful day for all

Good morning all

Another Monday!

I say this every year, but goodness, time is just whizzing past.

Weather here cloudy and nice breeze but certainly not cold.

Nothing much going on here this week, just housework and an attempt to carry on with de/cluttering.

Good morning from Sunnyside northwest coast. My painful swollen gum has gone down during the night, so I’m not phoning the dentist as expected. It’s the site of a complicated extraction a while ago, so was surprised to have more problems, but the salt water rinses seem to have done the job.

DD arrived from the south in the evening and we had roast chicken and madeleines. She brought chocolates and magazines. We watched Amandaland together, which was amusing.
It’s a fkying visit from my flying DD, but today to are going over to gardens on the Wirral with lunch in their cafe. She’s out with a friend tonight.

Thoughts to all🌺

Georgesgran Mon 13-Jul-26 08:27:48

Good Morning from Durham. It’s cool and breezy here and we might hit only 19 or 20 later. Much cooler than some places.
Yesterday was tedious - there was a long power cut which set off my alarm and I couldn’t stop it! Calls to the maintenance company weren’t answered, so, out of desperation, a neighbour managed to disconnect it. My head was ringing too!
I’m meeting a friend for our usual Monday coffee/chat, then home to make some phone calls, alarm people first.
DD2 has asked if I can look after Little Dog for a few days as her DH is going away and she’s in the office, so I’ll go through early evening to get him and walk him on the way home.

Best wishes to all. X

Good morning Michael and all GN's from a sunny but with a little breeze North Yorkshire. However it is going to get hotter again according to the forecast.

I am really struggling with my back this morning, so even slower than usual right now. It is a bit of a vicious circle as the weather has meant that I am not going out , or walking as much as usual so have had to start a get up and walk round ever hour to get some movement going! It will be another day staying in. I have plenty of food in, lacking the inclination to eat very much, but need to find some get up and go to do more than keeping kitchen and bathroom clean and tidy.

Yesterday, another very hot day , doing very little. I listened to my radio, did a minimum of housework, and looked on gransnet at various posts and wrote a few bits. Needed to write a letter but just put it off. When I am in the mood to write it all flows and works well. Not in the mood it is so plodding. I saw in the afternoon that there was Pride and Prejudice on the tv, and was glad to have that to look forward to. However after starting quite well, they had hacked great chunks from the story line, it was so annoying that I switched it off and got my copy from the bookshelf and read quite a bit from the original to calm down and enjoy it.

I need to get some fuel in the car, but that will wait for a cooler day. Contrary to the norm I expect the first day of thunder and cloudbursts we get to be hectic as everyone gets round to those jobs put off in the heat. But when will that be? I read with admiration all your efforts and things you are managing to get done despite the heat. Hope your check up goes well today Michael. Gelisa it looks lovely in Shetland, wish I was there. It will be the year to remember for the weather. Well time to creak out to the kitchen. Wishing you all a day of successful plans and keeping cool

brook2704 Mon 13-Jul-26 08:23:46

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s dry with light grey clouds
How wonderful Gelisa, enjoy your time in Shetland, I’d love to visit one day
A bit of a late start for me again today after a good nights sleep 😴.. nothing much planned for today but hopefully I’ll be outside pottering in the garden. Yesterday it got too hot in the afternoon so I’ll get outside this morning. Then there’s a line dancing class this evening too to look forward to, the room has aircon so it’s not too hot.
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 13-Jul-26 08:19:18

Took the bull by the horns and rang him (it’s 9:15am here so not as bad as that sounded). Yes, he’s coming. “About 3pm if that’s alright”. Fine by me!

BlueSapphire Mon 13-Jul-26 08:14:39

Good morning everyone from a cloudy Northampton, feeling cooler.

Seemed a very long day yesterday; was expecting DS in the morning but he phoned to say he'd better not come as the rest of the family were all down with some sort of tummy bug and he didn't want to share it with me!

I spent the afternoon in the garden in the shade of the pergola, and there was a good cooling breeze. The cats came out with me and sunbathed for a while but wanted to go back in after about half an hour.
I then made myself a Campari and soda, got my new book and spent a couple of hours in the shade!

Yoga first thing this morning but I need to get the bus as my friend is on holiday in Cornwall; shall go for coffee afterwards and I have already been promised a lift home.
After lunch I hope to get to the shops on the bus, as I need an M&S voucher for the ruby wedding celebration I am going to on Saturday in Liverpool.

Cold roast chicken for dinner tonight, left overs from the half roast chicken I cooked yesterday. Probably chips with it!

Wishing all a pleasant cooler day.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Mon 13-Jul-26 08:14:09

Good morning everybody from Málaga where 36°C is forecast. I’m expecting a tradesman to come ‘sometime today’ to replace the plastic joining strips that click the folding balcony windows together when shut. For some reason I don’t have a good feeling that he’ll turn up as messages on my smartphone have disappeared (what’s that about?) and the message I just tried to send failed.

I’m hoping it’s just because wherever he lives (?up in the campo) that the phone signal is poor. We shall see 🤷‍♀️

EkwaNimitee Mon 13-Jul-26 07:59:50

Good morning Mick and everyone from sunny Carlisle. It was 13°C a little while ago but will heat up rapidly. I have blinds down on the sunny side and windows open to let in the stiff breeze on the shady side. Once you let this house heat up, it's very hard to cool it down.
I have not done much this weekend, a brief visit into hot, sticky town and some deadheading in the garden plus I am starting to renovate and re-think my fruit and veg border. I'm thinking of putting in a raised bed which will make life easier I hope.

Today is vacuuming and laundry day, then I have some one off jobs in mind. I'll get out in the garden shortly before the sun gets on it and do some deadheading plus a bit of the dreaded watering....no rain in prospect this week.

Shetland is a wonderful place Gelisa. I nearly bought a bungalow there when I was planning my last move. However, it wouldn't have been a good idea to move somewhere remote when you're getting ancient, plus my boys would have freaked out at the thought of the travel involved to visit!

Have a good day everyone.

Liberty Mon 13-Jul-26 07:51:23

Good morning from a much cooler Suffolk after strong warm winds and sunshine yesterday. We returned to temps in the mid 20s tomorrow according to the forecast but no rain for the next 6 or so days.

Our pond,a natural one caused by digging out the clay hundreds of years ago is receding fast around the edges and the resident family of moorhens now take shelter in the surrounding shrubs in mud rather than water. It should fill up from underground springs when( or if) we have some rain.

Off to our local garage shortly for my annual service and MOT. DH will follow in his car and bring me home and take me to collect it when ready. I’m not going anywhere today so I don’t need a courtesy car.

Hope all have a good day and enjoy the change in temperature if only temporary.

latedecember1963 Mon 13-Jul-26 07:47:30

Good morning everyone from a breezy Anglesey.
I've been AWOL for a few days as haven't had chance to check in with my friend and then DH visiting but I've missed our catch ups.

I've had a read of yesterday so happy belated birthday, usedtobeblonde. I took my friend to Llandudno on Thursday and I hope you get to reschedule your trip soon. It's a proper old fashioned seaside town. We love it too!

Hope your cottage sale concludes smoothly, Gingster. Such a wrench to let it go but it sounds like a wonderful place for new people to enjoy building new family memories.

Love the illicit photo, FriedGreenTomatoes! He obviously isn't worried about anyone spotting it. 😁

My friend left on Friday morning. It's a long journey between here and Canvey Island so I really appreciate the trouble she took to come. We've sat up nattering into the night, putting the world to rights.
She's planning to visit in Lancashire in September for the Jigsaw Festival I'm involved in.

On Saturday DH and I took the little chap to meet up with his half siblings. They had a ball digging holes and building sandcastles on the beach at Rhos on Sea. Lovely to see them playing together.

DH headed home yesterday. Decoration of the little chap's bedroom begins today so we're staying here an extra week to keep out of the way.
Not much planned for today. I quite like a 'nothing' day occasionally.

Wishing you all the best day possible. 🌻

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 13-Jul-26 07:44:09

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. Another hot day is promised.

That’s a beautiful quilt GM!

I did my stint yesterday on the WI stall at the Village Fete. It was ridiculously hot and I was glad to get home.

OH took daughter to get her train back to London. Today I’ll get the room ready for our granddaughter who is coming for a few days on Friday after her school breaks up.

My Cleaner should be here today but I won’t do the usual Monday shop as it’s my friend over the road’s monthly craft Group. I think I’ll finish my collage but think about starting a patchwork. I haven’t done one in years.

It is Milo and Ripley’s (our cats) 16th birthday today! That is equivalent to 80 in human years. They are definitely slowing down and both getting rather batty.

Have a good day and keep hydrated.

Gelisa Mon 13-Jul-26 07:34:24

Good morning from Shetland where the weather is anything but typical Shetland weather. In 26 years of visiting I’ve never been so warm. It was absolutely glorious yesterday despite only being 15 degrees. To add icing on the cake we watched a pod of Orcas swim past! We heard they were heading south and we happened to be in Sumburgh Shetland’s most southerly point. We waited sat on the cliff to for just under 2 hours then a cry went up “they are there”!
Over the years we have watched the seal population plummet because of visiting Orca pods.
I have a photo but it’s not very good. You will need to zoom in. I don’t know who the people are.
Today we are heading up Ronas Hill, Shetland’s highest point to admire the view before heading to Lerwick for a boat trip to see the seabird colonies.
Take care everyone 🌸

HelterSkelter1 Mon 13-Jul-26 07:33:14

Good morning from N Surrey. Lovely cool breezy wind. Front and back doors open and all upstairs windows freshening up and cooling the house.
The garden is looking battered and dried out after days of such strong sunshine. The grass has given up. I shall give it a rake over to get rid of all the little dead twigs and leaves the wind brought down from the 2 horsechestnuts. It won't look so bad then. I will buy a few cheap washing up bowls from the pound shop today and put a few more pots in them filled with water. That has kept the hydrangeas alive as well as moving them to the shady side of the house.

Just a general tidy up indoors today. Will change my bedding and get that out into the breeze later.
Enjoy today as much as poss.

harrigran Mon 13-Jul-26 07:29:26

Good morning from a cool and dry Anstruther.
Yesterday was a stay closer to home day, GDs went off to play tennis and we went and did a top up shop.
In the evening GD1 drove us to the tidal pool where both GDs went swimming. Even just standing watching I was shivering.
The family have plans to travel further afield today but I will be staying put, unfortunately I can't even go out for a stroll on my own because the streets are too steep. I should have done more research before agreeing to this holiday.
Have a good day.

Grandmabatty Mon 13-Jul-26 07:27:22

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 13° and cloudy. The kitchen door is open to try and encourage a cool breeze in. GrandMattie the quilt is lovely.
Yesterday I did more housework. I managed to do a wash and hung it out where it dried beautifully. I nipped to dds to check for mail and chatted to her neighbour. Apparently the boys have learned how to play dominoes on holiday and are getting good at it. I shall have to buy a set for my house. Dinner was a ham salad then a sort of trifle minus custard. I fancied a glass of bubbly so took a bottle out of the fridge. To my dismay, the cork wouldn't come out despite my best efforts. So back in the fridge it went.
Today I will wash the floors and read. I have mince to cook in the slow cooker and then portion up and freeze. Have a good day all.

Jaxjacky Mon 13-Jul-26 07:22:03

Morning from a breezy S Hants, lovely and refreshing for now, warming up later.
Voluntary phone today, exercises and greenhouse watering.
Monday quizzes are back on BBC2.
Lovely quilt gMattie I like it, well done Iris.
Enjoy your f&c utbb.

Good Morning everyone from a very breezy and sunny central south coast. Feels less hot so far but this afternoon will tell us if the heat has really reduced. We always call 2pm "mad dogs time"!.

Nothing on the agenda for this week apart from my annual eye test on Thursday. I suspect I may need a new prescription. I think DH will be out with his cycling club on Wednesday but that has yet to be determined.

Take care everyone and kind thoughts to all our GNs with worries or struggles of any variety. Hope today brings some relief.

Redcar Mon 13-Jul-26 07:16:03

Good morning everyone from mid Essex. Cloudy with patches of blue at the moment, a cool breeze too which is pleasant. Did very little yesterday as I’ve not had too much sleep for a few nights. Last night was better fortunately.
Dd2 and family called in, bringing some of the contents of their loft, they’re having a loft extension so have had to empty it. Safely stored in one of my spare rooms.
Dd1 has hurt her leg so has borrowed my crutches, I don’t need them any more.

I’m meeting a friend for coffee at our local RHS garden this morning. I must try to do some gardening afterwards - encouraged by the RHS!

grandmattie well done to Iris for her achievement yesterday. Another lovely quilt too.

I hope you have an enjoyable lunch today utbb.

Last week at school here too, an easy week for the children with few actual lessons.

Safe journey to anyone travelling today, and have the best day possible everyone.

kittylester Mon 13-Jul-26 07:11:29

Good morning all from a very chilly Suffolk. It was so warm at home that I only packed one warm top so today we need to go shopping. Out for lunch then a very big sit down.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Gingster Mon 13-Jul-26 07:03:29

Good morning and I’m up early as little dog barked a few times, which is very unusual for her and I thought she might need to go outside.
So I’m downstairs with my cuppa, little dog snoozing beside me and it’s lovely and cool.
It’s been very windy which has kept the temperature down. 🙏.

I shampooed the carpets yesterday and the water was like a muddy puddle. 🤦‍♀️. Did lots of washing of towels and bathroom mats which all dried beautifully.

Really enjoyed the Wimbledon final and will miss it now it’s all over.

Today I have my Chimes group which will be fun, back home and DIL will come round to go through the paperwork for the sale of the cottage, before we sign. It’s nice to have a bit of support and reassurance.

I’ve had an invoice for drone pictures re sale. Surely this is all included in the estate agents fee. We didn’t ask for it.
Another phone call needed 🙄.

I need to phone the chap who quoted for the conservatory roof, too. His e mail quote was £3,000:more! 🙄.
Everyone is after our money.

I hope everyone has a ‘good’ day. 🌺

luluaugust Mon 13-Jul-26 07:02:39

Good morning from a cooler W Kent although I think it will heat up later. Cleaning lady this morning and then DGS3 is staying tonight as he has a business trip tomorrow and it is all easier from our house.
Well done Iris
Love the quilt gM
Best wishes
