First record you bought

My first record was "Move it" by Cliff Richard....second one was "High Class Baby", also by Cliff.

Bought them in A1 Stores, Walworth Road, S.E. London. I can still remember how excited I was !

Were the Wollies cheapo records cover versions? Can't remember now but do recall the first was 'Wipe Out' - "De de DING de de da... " Found first Stones' purchase - 'It's All Over Now' - when clearing family attic, 50 years later!

I think the vinyl i first bought was "Love, love me do" by The Beatles.
Vinyl is becoming very popular again.
I had to take about 50 LP's in my suitcase to America, for my eldest Son.
Also i have posted numerous parts of an old record deck,from the 70s, to America.
My Son is now obsessed with buying Vinyl and Record decks and doing them up.He has quite a collection and they all look fantastic.
My Son has good taste and listens to Lou Rawls etc.

Elvis singing "I just want to be your teddy bear" and "Oklahoma." I bought a Dansette on the never never, at the same time. My father was outraged and made me take everything back. So sad!

Needed to bring records to school for a class fun day but didn't have any records. Went to the shop and asked for "a record" and was recommended Roy Orbison's "Pretty Woman". Great days!

Creedence Clearwater Revival's album called Cosmo's Factory.

The first one I remember was The Yes Album. I borrowed the money from the man who became my DD's father!

Wooden Heart by Elvis Presley.

Frankie Vaughan's Tower of Strength. I think my mum liked it, too!

I played it over and over again. Still a big Kinks fan.

Loved Without You Wilma I often play the old black and white version on YouTube , what a voice Harry had.
Can't remember what I paid but my first single was All the Young Dudes by Mott the Hoople. Felt very grown up and sophisticated walking home with it too.

So many of these records bring back memories but I never owned them as I had no money or record player.

My first record was bought for me by a very close (male) friend and it was 'The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter' by the Incredible String Band. On the sleeve he wrote 'I'll buy you a record player when I'm rich.' Sadly we parted ways when he married (due to jealous wife) and I never saw him again. It was many years before I was able to buy a Midi- system and play it. I have now downloaded it from u-tube and I still love it. I have never heard anything like it before or since (though I am sure it is not to everyone's taste).

First single was Without You by Nilsson in 1972.

First album was a Top of the Pops compilation about the same year.

I used to get a new record among my Christmas presents - all 78s of course, and usually by Spike Jones and his City Slickers.

The first record I actually bought was also a 78, Weary Blues by Bunk Johnson, an old New Orleans veteran who had been rescued from obscurity by enthusiasts, given a trumpet and a set of false teeth and set to recording with a band of other old-timers.

My second purchase was Tito Gobbi singing Largo al factotum (Rossini - The Barber of Seville)

Grand Coulee Dam, Lonnie Donegan, but can't remember the year. Got it in Woolworths.

Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, in 1959, but not the original, it was a Woolworths cover version, by Paul Rich, and I`ve still got it! Didn`t even have a record player when I bought it, used to play it on my friend`s, at her house. My first LP was Elvis`s Blue Hawaii, in 1961. Hubby, my boyfriend at the time, destroyed it out of jealousy, but I got another copy, many years later.

I saw Helen Shapiro with Humphrey Lyttleton in 1997 roses still a great voice!!

The first record I bought was an Anthony Newley one - but I can't remember the title.
